Reviews for El Cucuy in New Orleans, LA

You'll find a unique vibe you don't see everywhere in New Orleans. The walls inside are decked with vintage movie posters from... old school classics like Death Race 2000. Happy Hour runs 4 to 6 I believe. Loaded nachos with chicken at $6 is a greatstarter. Other proteins are available. Other food options are your classics- tacos, quesadillas, etc. The shrimp quesadillafeatures healthy size shrimp and plenty of cheese in between beautifully toasted flour tortillas. Bonus points - it's spicy! There's nothing worse than bland food. Pork pibil taco is also a great option if you aren't into seafood. All of the tacos wetried were good size...none of this tiny street taco business. Overall, this is a must try place especially with the largeoutdoor patio. Get here before the weather starts to be a brat. Read more

My friends and I stopped in during their first weekend opened and really had a great time. They had some issues at the time... with their ticket system getting food back to the kitchen however that was to be expected. Atmosphere was nice, drinks wereexcellent, and the food was very fresh and flavorful. I personally started with the Sangrita and Mezcal to start and quicklywent into everything on the menu. My favorites were the shrimp cocktail and the Elote. I?ll be back. Two Thumbs up. Read more

Eccentric decor for sure. The food was not bad, the prices were better than expected.

I had been looking forward to eating here. I read rave reviews and heard good things.... I came in for an early dinner, and I... was the only one there. It's a nice dining area and bar, and there is outside dining, too. Not much in the way of parking spotstho. I ordered a margarita, guacamole  and an elote to start. The margarita was not the best, I got a Sprite to add to it. Theguacamole was disappointing. There was zero avocado flavor. The most prominent flavor was lime. I saw onion and radicchio in it,but just tasted lime. The elote looked fantastic, the corn was good, the cotija was good, they sprinkle tajin on it. In thiscase, they doused it with tajin,  so it had an overly citrus taste. Sidenote... elotes usually have some heat, like cayennedusted on it. Not here. I wanted to check out their tacos, so I ordered a carne asada, a shrimp diablo, and pork pibil. Eachtaco came with its own salsa. The carne asada taco was kind of bland and the meat a little dried out. The pork pibil was good, juicy and flavorful. I liked it. The star of the night was the shrimp diablo.. shrimp cooked nicely, the sauce was spicy andrich and gave your mouth a smack. Great flavor. This was the only thing with any kind of heat on it, and that's a shame. Onething I have to mention.... cilantro. I love it! But not here. Although there was cilantro on everything, but it was old, driedout cilantro. There was no taste to it whatsoever. If you don't have fresh cilantro, don't put it on the dishes. Hell, don'teven open!! (IMO) Overall, it was a little less than ok. Not traditional mexican food, it's a lackluster "take" on mexican. Read more

Came in for happy hour just to try it out. Really enjoyed the nachos with chicken. Also got a couple tacos - nopales, carne... asada and pibil - and all were really good. The meat fillings are a highlight. Also had a couple margaritas, which were good butsomewhat small. Lots of seating outside, which was nice. Read more

I called beforehand and verified that dogs were welcome in the yard. The server was wonderful to my pup, brought him a bowl of... water, a treat (upon verifying with me that it's OK) and loved on him every time she passed by. She even came back to take apicture of him. The food was very yummy (I tried an elote, nachos, and my human friend had a taco) and the decor is absolutelycool. I was told to walk a lot after a surgery and try to take my boy with me, and this hit the spot as a place to stop forlunch. Read more

Delicious and chill taco spot with the vibes of Mexican street food blended with interstellar satanic rock joint. The comfort... of The Saint at 10pm and a warm hug from a friend you only see wasted during Mardi-Gras. Destined to be a local and visitorfavorite for years. Cool art from Wolf Bat along the wall of the exterior seating, with an old airstream framed by a stage andoverhang in the back. Everything on the menu is delicious, but don?t leave without getting the grilled corn ????????????????????Staff is super nice and the place is following CDC guidelines to the T. Read more

Wow, just wow. I am in love! Hats off to Jennifer and crew for making such an awesome and hospitable atmosphere. I have been... in New Orleans for 5 years and this is by far the best Mexican food I have had since moving here from Houston. The theme isreally fun and so happy the designers ran with it because it is a fun place to be in the afternoon. We got the house margs, delicious! We tried each of the 3 meat tacos, carne asada, pollo, and pastor, I would highly recommend getting them la crudastyle. We were lucky enough to try the pastor torta as well, they load it up and it just melts in your mouth with amazingflavor. Everything seemed really fresh. Sorry I don?t have photos for the tacos but they were so delectable to the palate Ijust dug in as soon as they hit the table. The elote was hooked up, most places give you just a third of a corn on the cob, they give you the whole thing. We also had black beans as a side and they were on point. Again Jennifer and all crew weinteracted with were so nice and hospitable it just felt like I was on my porch having way better food than I know how to makewith friends. Thanks for opening this place up guys, you got lifetime customers and neighbors here and I can?t wait to spreadthe word!!! Also just an FYI, you can charge your phone on the umbrella poles on each table, how cool is that! Read more
