Reviews for Bennachin in New Orleans, LA
Amazingly delicious, well portioned and wallet-friendly gem in the heart of a place where many of the other eateries feel too... fried/salty/oily or designed to be tourist traps. We had the Jamaican Chicken and Kone Ni Mak (beans in a yummy tomato andonion stew with fried plantains and a coconut rice). Highly recommend trying out their iced herbal tea as well. If you go duringtheir lunch special, each plate is only $14. Stumbling upon this lively place that you could tell was run by people whogenuinely are proud of the establishment and the food they make was one of the happiest accident we made on this trip. Thank youfor the delicious food! Read more
I will never go back. The egusi soup tasted nothing but salt and water. I let the server know he brought out the cook and she... let me know no one has complained before, and I?m the first one, instead of her listening my concerns. Then I had to pay for asoup that I only touched with a plastic teaspoon to taste. .. just bad experience. And the owner was really ignorant to thefact. Did not touch anything else. I paid for food I didn?t eat. If I could give 0 stars I would. I was extremely upset becausemy experiences was ruined. The way you see on the picture is the way I left it on the table after paying full price andcomplaining of the food. She didn?t care and didn?t take it off the check. Read more
I go here strictly to eat fufu and egusi soup. The dish is so fulfilling. It comes with or without meat. The atmosphere is... calming and has great energy. Plus you can't go wrong mixing New Orleans vibes with African cuisine ?????????????????????? Read more
We stumbled upon this gem because we were searching for vegetarian friendly meal options (of which NOLA seems sorely lacking).... Many vegetarian meal items on the menu; some look vegan friendly as well. We enjoyed the Akara appetizer, lentil soup, and theJama and Yasa dishes. They also serve chilled tea; we really liked the ginger one. The atmosphere was authentic and our waitresswas very pleasant and accommodating. We had a great time and prices were quite reasonable. Guys, for real: this is THE BEST restaurant in New Orleans! The food is so good it's mean to the other restaurants! I ordered... the cooked potatoes with lamb and it's simply perfect. My wife got a tilapia with plantains and she absolutely loved it. Itreminded me of home. Don't think twice, just go! Really homemade food. Read more
A local friend recommended I come here since I am vegetarian. The service was really great! I ordered the vegetarian jambalaya... that comes with steamed spinach, and carrots in place of the beef. I like spicy food and overall it was good although for a dishof rice it was a bit dry. Some more of the spinach or a base/side sauce would?ve helped even it out. Read more
The meats here (we tried chicken and lamb) are cooked tender to perfection, and the sauces are so. flavorful. Favorite/best meat... so far in New Orleans! I've also only rarely had African food so this was a great opportunity to try some. Read more
I was looking for something vegetarian and this definitely hit the spot. This was like a quality meal you would have at your... grandmother's house and everything felt very intimate and personal. The prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be back. Read more
