Reviews for Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar in New Braunfels, TX
What a great menu! Great service and an amazing atmosphere with a totally cool layout. Now we went in November so we were... totally comfortable. We got there on a Tuesday at 2 PM and still had to wait. I can?t believe what it would be like in season atmoon! The jalapeño margarita was the BOMB! I can?t believe this drink isn?t everywhere. Cajun spice on the rim and freshjalapeños in the drink. Supreme! Read more
It's a must to stop here when visiting Gruene. Atmosphere is spectacular, but the best is to eat outside while watching the... sunset in the valley. That is priceless! Food is delicious. Texas size onion rings are special and the Top Sirloin is somethingto repeat. Service is a bit slow, they take too much time to bring you the order but they are very friendly andattentive. Highly recommended place! Read more
Ambiance- location for dining is outside or inside with no air conditioning in either location. Both areas are very noisy. The... building is historic and unique Location- downtown Gruene Food- excellent selection of American fare. The house salad, homefries and grilled chicken was excellent for lunch Service- very good with no issues Suggestions- dine in the late afternoon orevening to avoid the heat Read more
Friendly staff, very good food, and a cool atmosphere. My wife and I both had the chicken fried steak with gravy - I had the... fries on the side and she had the mashed potatoes. We both thought the steak was well-prepared and tasty, with a very goodbreading on it. It's easy to see why this is a favorite dish here. My wife thought the mashed potatoes would have more garlicflavor based on the menu description but they still tasted good. Portions were large - we probably could have split an entreeand been fine but decided we wouldn't mind some leftovers and are glad we got our own plates. We also left room for dessert andthe Jack Daniels Pecan Pie really hit the spot. I thought the chocolate chips, while not necessary, complimented it well. Mywife thought it needed more chocolate based on its description. We had been told prices were a bit high but we didn't think so.If we're near Gruene again, we'd like to go back and try some other dishes since everything coming to the tables around uslooked great. Gristmill River Restaurant offers relaxing indoor and outdoor seating. It?s large and spacious. Much of the outdoor seating... offers shaded areas with hilltop views of the Guadalupe River. There was a diverse menú of fish, seafood, steak and burgers. Itwas good but not great. However the reasonable prices makes this a perfect location for families and dates. Read more
What a great place to eat! Live music, good drinks, and it overlooks the Guadalupe. I had the chicken salad sandwich was a spin... on the original and was fantastic. The steak was also great as well. It's a unique environment and I can't recommend it enoughto people coming to visit. Thanks! Read more
If you are looking for a very special restaurant with wonderful food, excellent Texas ambience, great view of the river, look no... further. When I want to celebrate a special event occasion or take out of town guests too, I think of this wonderful hidden gemof a restaurant. Great food and reasonable prices and wonderful wait staff. Highly highly recommend!! Also while you are in thearea, take advantage of the shops in Gruene and possible live music. While there, we heard live bands playing blues music.Wonderful area to explore! The food here was really delicious, and the ambience and service is great as well. My complaints are so small that I just... couldn?t deduct a full star from these guys. This is a packed house that doesn?t take reservations, so come expecting to waitfor at least an hour on a weekend. They have great seating outside, and live music with a full service bar, so you honestly havea great time while you wait. We were seated in the first hall, which is smaller and doesn?t have the amazing river views youreally pick this place for. They also had the heaters on to compensate for the weather, and it got uncomfortably warm as theevening went on. If you?re able to, I would request seating in the bigger halls of the restaurant. We also had an issue whereour mashed potatoes weren?t ready at the same time as our entrees, and our spinach artichoke dip never came out until we wereready to leave. However, the team more than made up for it by bringing out sides to try (basically ending up with us eating ourway through every possible side). They were really apologetic and the rest of the meal was served perfectly. That being said,GET THE FRIES. They are so uniquely delicious. I also had the green beans and loved them. The mojito I had wasn?t properlymuddled, so small mint could make its way up my straw as I had it, which wasn?t awesome. But the drink itself was so good Iwould still recommend it, keeping that warning in mind. The spinach artichoke dip was in fact delicious, even though it wasafter the dinner. And the German chocolate cake is easily the best I?ve ever had served in a restaurant. There is a lot ofhistory to this area, and tons to do. So make it a night. I didn?t love the way the newspaper clippings in the restaurantdescribed the areas founding, but in the grand scheme of things this has very little to do with experience of eating here. Wecelebrated my mother-in-law?s birthday here and it felt like a real treat. Even with the feedback I have listed here, Read more
