I grew up in Havelock/New Bern area this was a staple time eat each time my family and I were in the area. So imagine visiting... and going to the place you remember as a child only to find out this is nothing like the BBQ you remember, nothing like thefries, nothing like the hush puppies nothing like shrimp. Moore?s in New Bern has run a special for the month of August on a 2 piece dark Combo (which includes their I Barbecue. ).... I?ve ordered it three different times. The 1st time I just let it go when I didn?t get the barbecue. The 2 nd time I brought itto the staffs attention and they brought me a side of barbecue. Today it happened again. No barbecue. I brought it to the staffsattention and I was told I would have to pay for a side of barbecue. On the last two occasions the clerk did not charge for thecombo. When you order from Moores?s you don?t get to see your receipt until they bring the food to you. Let?s just say I?mirritated. I specifically said combo because Of past problems. This Texan was fortunate to venture into beautiful New Bern, NC and try some of the world famous North Carolina bbq. This place... was recommended by several locals. I had the chopped pork and my wife had the spiggy(baked potato). Perhaps Carolina bbq is anacquired taste as there was a line wrapped around the building. The service was excellent and everyone was especially nice, butthe food. Oh the food. The bbq tasted like cured dirty dish water. The macaroni was devoid of seasoning and tasted like cheesyplain doughnuts. The hush puppies were okay. My wife didn't finish the potato. We tried adding their hot sauce but that didn'twork. Hopefully we get to try another place as one sampling doesn't define an area or a style and anyone can have an off day. Read more
