Reviews for Hathorne in Nashville, TN

Hathorne has superior service, a lovely ambience, great food, and obscenely good cocktails. My mother and I split 4 small plates... and 1 large and had leftovers. We are used to tapas-like places being stingy, but this is not the case at Hathorne! The bread, made in-house, was one of the stars. But everything was good; the small plates are generous and thoughtfully crafted. Our largeplate was a redfish with sunchoke, and it was spiced very creatively. Everything we had was very interesting and unique, which Ithink Nashville dining really struggles with. Not Hathorne - they take risks with their food but aren't too weird to eat. All oftheir stuff is very calculated; it pays off. We didn't have dessert, but we each had a dessert cocktail. That said: DO NOT missthe Amelie for dessert as long as it is on the menu. It's listed with cocktails, but it's an absolute treat and is a greatcompromise if you're full from dinner. Read more

It is hard to describe how fabulous our dinner was at Hathorne. I don't want to raise your expectation too high but only wish to... encourage you to go have a wonderful meal and experience it for yourself. I was recently in Nashville visiting my family. Weall went to dinner and were treated to one delicious dish after another. I had the feeling the cooks were having a very goodtime because each plate was full of inspiration and flavor. The service was everything you would want from a fine restaurant inNashville. Everyone was welcoming, considerate and genuine; especially the owner John Stephenson. I'm not interested in newdishes created just for flash or innovation. The food and drinks at Hathorne are perfectly prepared with flavors that maysurprise but at the same time work together marvelously for a very satisfying evening. It was the best restaurant meal I've everhad in Nashville. Can't wait to return. Read more

We had a 7:30 reservation and arrived unexpectedly early. The staff were able to get us in at the earlier time. Using the... parking information from the website, we were able to park at the pay lot behind the McDonalds next door. This information wasextremely helpful since we were driving a truck which is not always easy to find street parking for. The atmosphere of therestaurant was inviting. It appeared to be the fellowship hall of a church, remnants of which were incorporated into the decor. The tables were approximately spaced to allow for easy conversation without interference from neighboring tables. The seatingconsisted of pews and comfortable chairs. The wait staff were attentive and the owner visited our table. But the star of thenight was the food and drink. I tried the two of the small plates, the pork ribs with sour vegetable slaw and the frites. Bothwere delicious. I especially liked the sour vegetable slaw. It paired nicely with the sweetness of the pork ribs. The Friteswere good as well and had an aioli dip that made them unique. My partner had the fried chicken a la schnitzel with brown buttersweet potatoes. He loved his meal. I barely got a bite. The chicken was perfectly cooked with a delicious crunch. The brownbutter sweet potatoes were also unique with a real savoriness to them rather than the more traditional sweet seasonings usedwith sweet potatoes. But the most interesting part of the meal was the signature non-alcoholic cocktail. On the recommendationof the waiter after inquiring if I was okay with spice, I tried the Suzette. It is made with Seedlip Garden, pineapple, lime, and habanero. You could taste the pineapple and the lime and the habanero was the finally note of each sip. Well worth theexperience if you like a hot spice. Overall, Hathorn was an excellent dining experience and one I highly recommend. And onemore thing. We left a hat at our table. By the time we returned for it, they had already called Read more

…sigh…I so desperately want to love this place! This was my second try. The first experience was heavily based on rude... bartender service…and granted it was like a week after their original opening, but we hadn’t tried again until tonight. Ifigured several years later the kinks should be worked out. First, the “pay before you play” for a reservation is acomplete turn-off. I’ve never had to do this anywhere in Nashville. To some extent, I get it — but there’s really too muchcompetition in this city to charge $10 a person up front just to reserve your spot…and honestly it was 8:00 on a Saturdaynight and a half empty restaurant. I truly wonder how many people abandon this as an option simply because of that charge andchoose somewhere else to dine. Hostess was amazing. Lily gave us several recommendations and reviewed some of her favorites onthe menu. The server never gave us her name, but she did a good job — even allowing me to taste a wine I had never heard ofnor tried before. My classic Aviation cocktail was well-balanced and priced right. We ordered two small plates and a largeplate. I felt the watermelon salad was excellent. It was a refreshing menu item that I’d consider coming back for. We orderedthe goat cheese small plate which we overheard was a Hathorne staple and had been on the menu since they opened. Both mydaughter and I found it “ok.” Our large plate was the Korean dumplings which were just way to bold and overpowering for an“entree-sized” serving. The chanterelles were the best part of the dish. The pepper was salty and just super bold. We splitthis dish and between the two of us could only eat half. Honestly, I don’t know what a Korean dumpling is supposed to tastelike…nor it’s texture, but this plate missed the mark for us. We had planned to choose a dessert, but there was a terriblystrong fish smell wafting about the patio, and honestly, we just couldn’t stomach being there anymore. We couldn’t identifywhere it was coming from and Read more
