It was far from a quiet romantic meal for my birthday! Way too noisy in the open concept dining area and the only view we got... were the smokers smoking outside and the cars pulling up to the front lobby door. Personally, the dining room should be locatedupstairs on it's own! The food was adequate: the french onion soup did not have any baked bread crumbs in it and way too muchwine?! The filet mignon bled all over the mashed potatoes because they placed the steak on the potatoes! Big Mistake! Drinkswere okay but my husband has had better Old Fashion and my pop was different tasting in the rum. Couldn't put my finger on it. Not satisfied in the least. Oh, and we wanted salt, pepper & some additional butter but by the time we flagged our waitressesdown, the food was cold. I "get" the slow dining experience but come check on your table for their needs and wants at leastonce! We spent plenty of $ for 2 people and walked away dissatisfied. We will continue to go out of town for our 5 star mealsand ambiance. Read more

Very disappointing! Went for lunch after a recommendation. Service was slow and unfriendly. Price of my Ceasar salad was... ridiculously high considering no croutons or even fresh parmesan was served on it. The puny amount of chicken, while good, didnot warrant the price. I will not be returning. Read more

The view at sunset watching a pair of eagles flying around was very nice. It's a beautiful hotel with an entirely open concept.... It did not feel cozy and warm. I felt like I was being watched in the crosshairs of some weird sicko across the river who couldhave shot me at any moment during our wonderfully prepared Valentine's dinner. I know it was just me but I would have preferredto not have been so out in the open. The Riley I ordered was prepared wonderfully. I savored ever bite of deliciousness as longas I could. Best steak I'd had in a very long time. Wonderful, polite wait staff. I truly did live my experience just felt weirdbeing out in the open is all. Beautifully and tastefully interior. Read more

Spent the past two nights at The Merrill. Spent both nights in Maxwell's. I had the pasta Bolognese night 1 and the short rib... night 2. Significant lack of seasoning in both dishes and there is a problem with bringing the food out at more than a lukewarm temp. I didn't say anything night one. I DID say something night 2. I was asked if I wanted to have the meal remade, butI was already halfway through and didn't want to wait. Service staff was great, but kitchen was out of touch, I think. Beautiful property, would love to come back if I thought the food would be better next time. Read more

Excellent service, excellent food, and an excellent atmosphere. During my recent business trip to Muscatine, I was treated to a... lunch at Maxwell's as a guest of the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry. I ordered the side Caesar Salad and theScratch-Made Soup of the Day (Beef Stew of some sort w/ mushrooms). My host ordered the Berry Salad with Grilled Chicken. Thedishes themselves were prepared and presented beautifully and the aroma and flavor of my soup was incredible. The Caesar Saladalso did not disappoint and my host finished every bite of his meal as well. 5 out of 5 stars and plans to return again in thenear future! Read more

Exceeded Expectations While staying at The Merrill I was directed to Maxwells by the staff when I checked in. Being a veteran... of many hotel restaurants and not always being impressed, I walked over to Maxwells to have a look before I went up to my room. What I saw was a very well designed dining area, very new and distinguished. The bar itself was shiny, charming and aesthetic. Iwent back to my room, had a quick workout in the fitness center, went for a nice long walk along the river, and then went toWarrior Crossfit for a WOD. When I got back to the hotel, I went back to my room changed, showered and heading down toMaxwells. I was very fortunate to arrive when I did as the restaurant was starting to fill up. I went to the bar and sat downand took in the ambiance for a couple of minutes. The bartender, who served me was a joy to talk to and I also stuck up aconversation with some folks at the bar who were staying at the Merrill as well. As you can imagine from all my activities thatday I was famished, so I came with an appetite. Despite that over the last couple of days, I had consumed quite a bit of food. That said Maxwells was a perfect place to have a meal. The food was very well imagined, had just the right portion size and itwas very high quality. I started off with one of the salads on the menu, a harvest salad which was composed of locally sourceditems. The portion size just right and the ingredients were very fresh and high quality. My salad was composed of field greens, roasted beets, citrus, goat cheese, candied pistachios with a light coating of apple cider vinaigrette. This was a veryappetizing and flavourful salad. Next up was the main and the side. Please note that some of the mains are served al la carte, and some have sides on the plate. The main dish was a summer feature, an amazingly light and flavourful pickerel dish about 7-8ounces drizzled with a citrus vinaigrette, topped with lightly sauteed mixed veggies. This dish was top-notch Read more
