We have had pizza and Stromboli several times from here and it was pretty good. I tried the eggplant Parmesan with spaghetti and... it was not very good. The eggplant had plain breadcrumbs with no seasoning at all. Just half melted cheese and no sauce, therewas some sauce on the spaghetti but not much. I added sauce from my husbands Stromboli and some garlic powder and Italianseasoning and I was able to eat it. I would never order this again. Read more
We had a pizza craving and we were all too busy to take the time to drive down to 1905 Pizza in Apopka, where you can get a real... New York pizza. After a quick Google search we decided to try The Pizza Shop. Honestly, I don?t like giving anyone a bad review,but whoever thinks this is New York style pizza has never been to NYC. Take it from a Brooklyn girl?NYC pizza crust gets itsflavor from good Italian olive oil and the right balance of salt. It?s not a perfect circle because it?s hand stretched, andvery thinly, an important part of the technique in terms of texture. After it?s baked the crust will have some bubbles that havepopped in the oven and some dark spots. It will be tender, but crisp, so that when you fold a slice, the crust will crack. Thesauce is made from scratch using high quality Italian tomatoes, again high quality olive oil, garlic, fresh basil, and a touchof oregano. The cheese is hand-grated whole milk (buffalo is beat) mozzarella that has flavor and melts well, without becomingstringy. It should be finished with a sprinkle of parmigiano reggiano. The best pies have a little snipped fresh basil addedwhen it comes out of the oven. While the photos on The Pizza Shop?s website looked good, we knew it was wrong as soon as weopened the box. A perfect circle of pale, too-thick dough. It was kind of like cracker dough in flavor. No cracking crust here.The sauce was practically non existent, so I can?t really report on the flavor, but I didn?t notice any flavor. The cheese washard and chewy and stringy, and it squeaked against our teeth, the way cheese curds do. I was actually worried about choking. Tried for the first time. Ordered with a couple veggies, extra sausage. Pizza came with a few veggies and sausage was very... difficult to find on the pizza. Definitely not extra sausage and questionable if even a normal amount of sausage. Crust was ok.Overall, disappointing. Read more
Found a pizza place in Mount Dora that I will utilize from now on when pizza is the desired item! Can?t put a specific attribute... on the pizza other than overall it?s tastes better and GOOD crust. Had it delivered and will check out the restaurant in personassuming it?s also dine-in. Read more
The Pizza Shop is one of the best Mount Dora's most kept secrets. The place is immaculate, and all of the items are fresh and... of high quality. Most reasonable prices and you "get a lot for your buck". The owner and staff are wonderful. I do hope theysucceed in a business that is tough in today's environment. Tried this place a long time ago when the old man owned it and it wasn't anything to write home about. Tried it last night, and... spoke with the owner Sean while he was making my loaded pizza (meat lovers). Pizza was delicious and loaded with premiumtoppings. The owner Sean was friendly and very nice. He helped me out, as I was leaving I left my headlights on in my car and hegave me a jump with his truck!
