This was a nice little sushi restaurant we happened upon while walking around our hotel in Monterey. Overall, it was a good... experience with the sashimi platter as the main highlight. The fish was very fresh and tasty. The crunchy roll was also good. Wealso got starters of mixed tempura and agadashi tofu, which were decent. Service was excellent as our waitress was attentive andrefilled our tea and water often! The vibe was nice if you like loud music and disco lights. I did like the fact that they askedif it was ok to turn on the disco lights knowing that we had a baby with us. I would definitely recommend this place if you'rein the mood for fresh sushi and sashimi. Read more
Great spot, in an awesome neighborhood. Was looking for a nice, gentle, easy sushi night and Sushi Kuma provides. The cocktails... were delicious, the sushi very filling and the menu diverse. Lots of yummy starters and special rolls. We met Dylan, who ownsthe restaurant along with his brother, and him and his staff were attentive and punctual. Amazing sushi! I had take out but sat at the bar to buy a drink while I waited for my food. The drinks were amazing, even got... one to go. The service was 10/10, the owner was there and recommended some sake to me and made conversation while I waited formy food. Will definitely be back Read more
We had better experiences at other sushi restaurants in the area. This place needs to have more experience waiters, they forgot... to put our order in the system and prices are more expensive than others, do not order Spanish bay roll, it is disgusting. Hands down, the best sushi my wife and I have ever had. Not only the best sushi, great pricing and amazing service. Everyone we... talked to was so kind. One of the managers ( we think, we should have asked his name!) took the time to talk with us ask ournames ( and remember them throughout our stay). Our server was also so kind and quick to serve us. Just had a hankering for sushi and we happily tried Sushi Kuma. The service was great, all staff so welcoming and friendly. We... opted for some basic rolls, the California and spicy tuna, and tried a specialty roll, Sun's. This place is a gem in downtown Monterey. My girlfriend very rarely speaks so highly of a restaurant after visiting but she... could not stop talking about this one! Service was friendly, timely, and personable. Waiters/waitresses came around the perfectamount. Food came out quickly as well. Food was prepared beautifully and tasted just as good!
