Reviews for Bread & Salt Afghan Cuisine in Mississauga, ON
Great food, friendly server, nice ambiance. We had the Couple Combo 1 and lentil soup. For the combo, we chose lamb tikki,... chicken and beef chaplee kabob. All very satisfying. The only shortcoming contributing to the one star deduction was theventilation system. Although it was nice smell, the greasy smell was quite noticeable in the dining area. I reckon the grease inthe air also made the floor slippery. Read more
Searching for a suitable place to eat in the neighbourhood I was surprised to find an Afghan restaurant with a dedicated Vegan... section. That very satisfying to see and made us try this restaurant out. The interior is decorated well with some pictures ofAfghan personalities and some very nice paintings. Started with Vegan Dumplings - to make it vegan had yogurt on the side. Theydisappointed a bit as they were to tiny even for one. Too greasy for our taste. Tasted OK. The filling too less compared to thedumpling dough and made the taste too doughy. Had a Mixed Veggie and Qorma-e-Lubia (chickpeas and red kidney beans) dinnerplatters. They both came with rice and Afghani Naan. Both the dishes tasted very nice with mild spices and perfectly seasoned. The taste is absolutely amazing however the oil quantity in both the dishes and rice was a downer for us. The naan on the otherhand was among the best freshest naan we have had. May be next time, we can replace the rice with naans. Also comes with a smallsalad which was simple and good. The service very good, but the staff does need to know what the vegan options are as the staffwas a bit surprised we asked for vegan options. One extra star for keeping vegan options on the menu. Worth a try for sure andfor naan anytime. Read more

Was pleasantly surprised by this place. As soon as you step through the front door, the atmosphere/ambiance makes it feel as if... you?re in an elegant high-end restaurant! Staff were extremely polite and service was quick, water was served with minutes afterbeing seated and our food took about 10-15 minutes to arrive. I did find this place to be slightly more expensive than otherAfghan restaurants that serve the same/similar food but I feel for the overall experience, it is worth it. Names of items inthe order of the pictures: 1.) Mix Grill 1 - Dinner Plate 2.) Mix Grill 5 - Dinner Plate Highly recommend this place and any ofthe items I tried from their menu! Read more
Went to the restaurant at 11 pm and the receptionist tells us that they are about to close at 11:30 pm even though their Google... profile shows 12 am closing time. Later on they tell us that they only do take out after 11 pm but no mention of that was madeonline. Anyways we let her know we won't be long and get seated. They even let another family in after us so I don't understandwhy it was a big deal for us. Food was a disappointment. Total bill came to around $75. $13 for honey garlic wings (filled withoil at the bottom and looked to be just boiled with honey garlic thrown on top), $11 for lamb chops (if you could call themthat, 4 small pieces barely longer than the length of my phone in the picture). Initially the server told us there would be 6pieces and then we got 4 and when asked why she mentioned because these were bigger pieces the chef gave 4. Server did wentback, corrected what she said earlier, and gave us 2 extra pieces without us asking. $19 for the lamb shank (the only gooddish), $24 for combo 6 (beef pieces were undercooked but at this point we were too tired to say anything). At the end we weretold that the chef was also a trainee but that is no excuse for low balling on food quality or quantity especially when they arepriced so much higher than competing Afghan restaurants. Server was polite, decent and apologized for the issues and correctedher mistakes. However to deter a customer entering the restaurant by saying 'we are about to close' when there is an hour leftand multiple families inside and another who is allowed after us, is not respectful. And then to say a certain food item is onequantity and then when served it is less than mentioned is also disrespectful. Read more
Really fabulous lunch dining on authentic Afghan cuisine. Having ordered a platter for two, there were many different dishes to... try ranging from dumplings, kebabs, rice, breads, salad, etc. We finished up with a lovely pudding that was delicately perfumedwith cardamom and had a rich dairy flavour. I felt it was a great value for the money and will be back to sample more deliciousdishes soon! Read more

This was our first time trying Afghan food. We invited some other family members over to give it a try since we thought it might... be fun. It turned out to be a delicious dinner. We ordered the family platter with beef. The servings are large. Which is greatbecause we were entertaining nearly six people and had lots of leftovers. The rice had hints of sweet from the raisins. The beefwas cooked very well and had a great taste to it. The spices and sauces that it came with were great to help tone down the heatif you didn't like it very spicy. It was a great first time experience for trying a different culture food. It's hard tocompare it to other Mediterranean servings. I think that's why it's unique and flavorful. We easily could have fed almost eightpeople with what was delivered. So the family platter is definitely something to consider for more than four people. My onlyissue with everything would have to be the bread. It was really tasty but the texture and the ability to chew it was extremelydifficult. Again I'm not sure if that's culturally how the bread is made and different from traditional naan bread. I found itvery hard to chew on its own. Read more
