Reviews for The Bear Pit Bar-B-Q Restaurant in Mission Hills, CA
Really good BBQ. The prices are reasonable, considering what you get. I got the baby back ribs (1/2 rack), potato salad, beans,... slaw, and garlic bread, for $24. The original bbq sauce is fairly mild, not spicy, but good flavor. The ribs were great, verymeaty, not dry and very little fat. All sides were good, with the potato salad being mustard style. It?s a old school restaurantthat could definitely use updating (old light fixtures with mismatched lamps) and old pictures of long dead celebrity guests. Soif you ignore your immediate surroundings and concentrate on the food, it?s a great place for BBQ. Recommended. Read more
The turkey and the tri tip were absolutely delicious. However, the beef rack/ribs and the chicken were slightly overcooked... (nothing inedible tho) and there was a lot of smoke in the dining room air. If you're sensitive to smoke then I recommend notgoing but otherwise, I'd say it was very enjoyable. Read more
Had not been here in many years as the food was disappointing the last time I was there. A friend liked barbecue, so we arrived... late afternoon. It was quite pricey. As shown in the photos the chicken was very old, dry and over cooked. The wing was pitiful.I asked my friend what he thought about the beans and potato salad he remarked that they were poor and the beans were loadedwith barbecue sauce rather than the typical cooked and flavorful sauce. I would have rated a one but the staff were quitecordial. The food was an insult. Since the prices were very high the food should be at least edible Read more
Review for March 2nd 2022. The Bear Pit Barbecue Restaurant is located in the heart of the Mission Hills California. It's in the... Los Angeles County within the San Fernando Valley. Adjacent to the 118 freeway and Sepulveda Boulevard. Let me start off bysaying that I absolutely appreciate the customer service. It goes without saying that the barbecue ribs here are absolutely todie for. I'm not guilty, to say that I love BBQ ribs. Thank you so much for the attention to service that you guys provide andall the great quality food that you have. Also perfect spot for a coffee with your lunch. Read more
The place has an old school vibe. Baby back ribs were dry. The links and chicken tortilla soup was good. The toast was also... good. Read more
The Bear Pit is something my wife has talked about for years, we finally got a chance the visit it tonight. Food was great, wife... had a lamb sandwich and loved it. I had a huge sample platter, with beef and pork short ribs plus sliced beef and ham. It wasfantastic. The ribs are not coated with rub or sauced but they give you alot of sauce to apply as you wish. What a gem in North Hollywood! TRY THE TEXAS TOAST! I had some spareribs with a pork sandwich and two sides(Cole slaw and baked... beans) and my favorite item here was the cole slaw. The carrowway seeds added some magic to the dish. :) The spareribs looked alittle dry on the outside, but the interior was moist and slightly red which I throughly enjoyed. The Texas toast was perfect, but the pork was meh. Great French fries and the baked beans were great! Personally, I can't wait to come back. Very cuteinterior. Beer was less than 5 dollars :) Read more
I've been by this place a hundred times and have heard nothing but good things so, after a doctor visit 2 blocks away, decided... to finally give it a try for a late lunch (2:30) since my wife and I were both famished. Times being what they are, we eachordered off the senior discount menu. The beef brisket sandwich we each had was excellent. I can't say it's as good asLockhart's in Dallas (no brisket could ever live up to that), but it was very tasty and a great deal for $12.99 with ourdiscount. It was actually $13.74 since we both opted for their "famous" garlic toast which, I think, was worth the extra 75cents. The baked beans we chose as a side were perfect, as well. The sweetness reminded me of my aunt's and grandmother's when Iwas growing up in Indianapolis. I love the decor, too. Nothing fancy at all. Just old time booths like an old Dupar's and withold pictures on the walls and lots of bears - it really feels like going back in time to when the valley was still mostlyfarmland and things were...well, just different (better, I'd say). Back when Hollywood was very pro-American (yeah, theyactually were for those of you who are too young to remember). Read more
