We arrived at about 7 PM on a Friday and literally were the only ones in the entire place besides the staff. That worried us. We... began to order and the waitress was very green but sweet. They didn't have many of the basic items required to make some oftheir signature drinks which was disappointing. Obviously we were not optimistic about the food. How wrong we were! The food wasmade fast and prepared well. We had the smash burger and the shrimp sliders which were dynamite with just the right spice. Wealso had the tempura vegetables which were lightly fried with a spicy dipping sauce which was the perfect complement. Thewaitress came around with some complimentary drinks which was a surprise and nice touch. It seems that they need to still workout some kinks as far as preparation and service but the food will keep us coming back. We live close by and will definitelyreturn. Read more
This place used to have one of my favorite fried chicken sandwiches in the area: large, thick, fried and nicely breaded piece of... chicken covered in shredded cabbage with a tasty white BBQ sauce falling over top. I had it a few times and it was top notch. Iordered it again recently after the new ownership and staffing took over. It was SUPER disappointing. The sandwich had threesmall crumbly pieces of fried chicken and they slapped a slice of tomato and 2 pieces of lettuce on top with a little bit ofsauce. Why would I ever think to pay $16 for a fried chicken sandwich prepared that way? I think I'll stick to Crafty Cow/HotHead - love their fried chicken sandwich and not quite $16... Very sad the quality of the food at Blackwood Bros has seemed tohave greatly suffered as of late. Read more
2hrs between our food order and when we actually received the food. Fries were cold when the food finally arrived. The size of... the chicken on the sandwich was the size of a chicken nugget. Drink orders for beers on tap were placed and took over twentyminutes to arrive after we reminded them twice. They also asked our party with an infant to move tables because a band wascoming in?. We would have left earlier if the food arrived on time. The waitstaff kept coming over and would ?forget their pad?to take orders. My heart goes out for those who are understaffed but the staff spent their night laughing behind the bar. Notunderstaffed, just absolutely horrible at everything. Avoid this place at all costs. Fantastic brunch menu! Their Bayview location is well placed for easy access, ideal natural lighting, and ample parking. Their... eccentric menu makes this another must-visit for anyone with adventurous tastes in mind. Read more
My new favorite place to eat in Milwaukee! We went on a Wednesday night and it was fairly quiet so we were seated right away.... They have Happy Hour until 7 pm, and the cocktails were absolutely delicious. For dinner, we ordered a burger, skinny fries,pear salad (with fried goat cheese, absolutely to die for which you can order ala carte!), the ginger tamari Korean chickenwings, and cheesecake. Everything was super fresh and really tasty. I really appreciated the amount of vegan/vegetarian itemsthey have. The meal portions are huge which makes the prices really great. Our server was also excellent. As was mentioned hereby another customer, the low-key vibe of this place mixed with the dark, cozy lighting really makes you want to stay for hours.I loved it. Also, I don't know of many places in the Milwaukee/Bayview area that serve dinner until midnight. That seems prettyunique and awesome. Read more
Talon was our waitress! First time here and the experience was amazing. Great service, cute decor and setup and great food. We... ordered the tofu sandwich and the Seoul wings and it was delicious. We got started with a shot on the house with our waitressand doubled up on our drinks. Very attentive waitress as well as bare tender and we will definitely be returning! Read more
I have been meaning to write a review for this place for MONTHS so here is my long awaited praise for Blackwood Brothers. So... the first time I came here was back in May I believe. The place had only been open for like, five days or something. The serverwas so friendly, and when I was back recently I noticed that he is still working there. Nice guy! Anyways, my first visit wasfor late night, post-drinking food, and I ordered the Killer Tofu Sandwich (pictured). I haven't tried everything on the menusince then, but this dish remains at my number one go-to when I'm here. The combination of textures from the different toppingsis so incredible, and the flavors mingle effortlessly. It gets spicer as you eat it, and let me tell you, you might need apitcher of water close by, but every bite is worth it. Also, I'm always amazed by the french fries here - they are a perfectblend of sweet and savory...they're almost cinnamon-y too. So unique! I met the owner once and she was so charming and tookGinger brandy shots with my fiance and I (also delicious). This menu is so meticulously put together and everything I've triedhas been out of this world. The vibe in the restaurant is on par with the food. There are plants everywhere, cozy moodlighting, and tall panel windows to gaze out of during your meal. I'm incredibly happy to know this new spot, and I can't waitto continue exploring the menu!! Amazing experience and amazing food. Literally everything was very delicious. The Korean Style Fried Wings are simply amazing.... The shrimp sliders too. I highly recommend you try both the Fried Chicken sandwich and the Sledgehammer burger as well. They'rebig enough to be split in half. Please keep in mind that the kitchen staff changed at some point so your orders may bepresented differently from the pictures you see here from a year ago. The restaurant is clean and the service is fast and veryhelpful. It's so refreshing to have such a place serving quality food till midnight. The restaurant is open Wednesday thruSaturday and operates late. I like this place. And I have been coming back. Read more
