Really great location for a coffee shop , next to great local bookstore. I went once last week and tried a dirty chai latte ,... which was just ok. Decided to try it again , thinking maybe something else would be better. Went again today and we got avanilla chai latte , a caramel macchiato and a specialty drink of theirs called the Bon Bon (I think) . All of our drinks tastedwatery and just not very good. We didn?t drink any of them. We love coffee and especially local shops but we were prettydisappointed with the quality of the drinks. We may try it again , but based on the coffee itself we weren?t too impressed. Thebrownies and baked goods were the highlight for sure. We aren?t big fudge fans but for fudge lovers might be worth checkingout. Read more

We try to visit a different coffee shop each week in the RVA area and this was by far our least favorite. The sandwich and... drinks were overpriced ($9) for just a regular sandwich and our mocha was 6.50 each. The bathrooms were not clean and the foodand atmosphere was not that great. If you want a good coffee shop that serves excellent food try Stir Crazy in RVA they set thebar for excellence for around the same price. Read more

Sweet little place here. Very open and inviting place as soon as you walk in. The smell, the aroma of the place as you enter is... uplifting. Smells amazing. They serve cold brew and hot brew. Have an Expresso machine and make food and desserts. This place isamazing, the quality of their work is impeccable, and their timing to execute orders in a timely fashion is fast. This littleshop has a nice seating arrangement, so you can kick back read the paper, drink your coffee or enjoy your snack. Whatever yourinterests may be, or even if you want to stop in there to knock out some work on the laptop from there, feel free. Feels like beat home when you there. Read more

This is my go to local coffee and quick bite spot. I moved to Midlothian about 3 years ago and have always wanted to find a nice... spot that isn?t Starbucks. About 9 months ago I decided to venture out after the pandemic to see what I could find, and CoalMine was exactly what I was looking for. It?s usually pretty quiet, always extremely friendly with relaxed conversation, andwhile the drink quality (and recommendations) are top notch, the prices beat out any other shop I?ve been too! Coal Mine Coffee. Where do I start. This place has a large parking lot with plenty of space, is decorated nicely inside and has... a clean bathroom. The two ladies working inside are nice, but not very on top of things. I ordered a regular coffee (nodecaffeinated was made so my mom said regular was fine), a large chai tea, and a strawberry scone. They seemed unorganized andhad no clue about alternative milks for those that want a different opinion, let me pay for the large chai but then didn't havechai and instead of offering to refund when I said I don't like coffee and offered to make me a regular latte (although I willtake some ownership for not bringing that up myself as I was just shocked by the lack of stuff available post payment), and thenI get a weak coffee with milk that was about as good as possible for a non coffee drinker. They were not busy at all but after10 minutes still had not given me my scone. It was crumbly, not heated and not very good. I then had to ask for a receiptwhich I didn't get because my coffee that I didn't want was the same size as my mom's regular which of course I paid a pricedifference for a large chai. I also tipped because I do that at local places and regret that after the debacle but theyobviously need it. I finally got a refund on the difference and the better of the two gave me a rewards card with 4 marked outof 10 on my way to a free drink. I don't plan to go back so although I appreciate the attempt at recovery, not effective team.So disappointed. I really wanted to like this place. The younger girl needs a coworker to rely on!
