I really wanted to love this place. The vibe is so cool but at the end of the day it's a bar so let's talk drinks. We were... already a couple of drinks in when one of us ordered whiskey neat. The bartender, a different one than had been serving us, saysall of our liquor comes as a double pour that's our policy is that ok? This was the first time we learned that our previousdrinks were twice as expensive as we thought.... the drink comes and wow that's a skimpy pour. Friend mentions it and anotherbartender explains that they do things different and their shot is 1.25 oz so a double is 2.5 oz so you're getting about .5 ozless than you pay for with a double. I wouldn't normally be one to split hairs but hey when you're paying $20/shot it would benice to get what you pay for. I had been drinking Brut with dinner upstairs and tried to continue downstairs but the bartenderbrought me a very small pour and said that they were almost out of Brut that i was drinking, that was the last of the bottle butshe'd bring me more of "another kind" she just didn't want to mix the two. It tasted very sweet compared to what I'd beendrinking so I asked another bartender if I'd been accidentally poured prosecco. He asked the bartender that poured it and shesaid no it was Brut but he found the bottle and it was indeed prosecco. Like I said I really wanted to love this place... I haveno problem with paying premium prices but I do appreciate getting what you pay for. Staff definitely needs training on the winelist to understand that just because they are in the same category ie bubbly doesn't mean they are the same and that they shouldbe attentive to serve a customer what they order or offer alternatives instead of just making a substitution. Short shots forthe price and not letting customers know you're going to charge them for a double (that's not) is also crummy business. Thisplace has great potential to be a fabulous high end bar but quit trying to cut corners to increase prof Read more

Little experience with parking while there was an event going on outside, but the atmosphere was awesome. There's a vintage feel... and nice old fashioned style to the building, and a cool control panel that shows how the building was monitored andcontrolled. Food was a little pricy, but it's upscale and well maintained so it's worth it. Drinks were not skimpy on thealcohol and generous and they can even make you an Arnold Palmer! Fish with the caper dill is phenomenal! Classy, friendly, andattentive service. A must if you want a nice event or just getting together. Read more

Ok wow, this place is swanky and I am in love. We showed up on a Monday for Happy Hour which is 4-7pm. The drinks were stunning... and I can?t stress how cool the vibe is. We?ll definitely be back on a busier night for what I imagine is some good peoplewatching. Daniel, our bartender was super friendly and even whipped up a creme brûlée martini on the fly after I asked for?Bartender?s Choice?. *Note: Please don?t ever do that when the bar is slammed with customers! ???? Overall, huge fan. Considerme a future regular. Read more

To be as accurate as possible, averaging the categories Service, Atmosphere, Food, Price Opal's Basement is a 3. Great... atmosphere, downtown Dallas/Bishop Art District vibe, with the Midland dress code (which is, whatever you have on your body).Extensive liquor offering, if you're a neat drinker, pours are not liberal. Crab cakes ($16) are not recommended, visually theybring to mind fried zucchini, and on this visit, overcooked and definitely not leaving you wanting another. Blue Cheese Wedgeside salad ($6), DELISH and the star of this visit! Perfect amount of dressing ratio and spot on flavor, if you like okra - I donot, but my dining mate does & loved it - it and cherry tomatoes are the Wedges garnish. Pecan Crusted Chicken ($28) was overcharred, tasting almost burnt and accompanying potatoes were undercooked. Chicken fried steak ($22) and mash was good. In housecrust was perfect and steak was tender. Needed more seasoning, maybe if the gravy was jalapeno the dish would be more flavorful, but it was better than hundreds of other chicken fried steaks eaten elsewhere. Service was effective, polite, professional andfar better than any service experienced in Midland. Meet somewhere for drinks with nice pours, then head to Opal's Basement andfeel like you've road tripped a few hundred miles to somewhere else! Read more

Great bar and a fantastic addition to Downtown Midland! The decor is nice and the old AC control panel looks awesome! My only... complaint is it can get a little warm down there. If your visiting Midland then my suggestion is have Dinner at Opal's Tablethen head downstairs! Read more

What a cool bar! It feels like you are in a big city - not West Texas. We love the vibe and the individual lounge seating areas.... It's a great place for happy hour or a night cap. This and Opal's Table are our go to spots in Midland! Read more
