I live about an hour away from this restaurant but will drive back in an instant to dine in! Our family of four had the BEST... experience. Every single staff member was friendly (especially Kevin- our server). The food was the best I have ever had(coconut shrimp tacos and lobster shrimp enchiladas). Very salty, so heavy in dairy products, it's almost like they're trying to mask the flavor of the cooking. Also, they charged me... an extra $5.50 to put veggies in burrito instead of the meat that already comes in meal.. I find it hard to believe that itcosts more to substitute veggies for dead animal. Was treated to dinner at the Highland House and I was very glad I was! The building is nice, has a pleasant little Mexican... aesthetic and is very clean and spacious. The service was great to, no complaints there. Food was incredibly great and servedgreat portions! I got a plate of some of the BEST wings I've had in Wisconsin and a scrumptious big ol burrito! This place is so cute and it has great parking and friendly staff. The first place we ate while moving to the area. That being... said. I would not recommend eating their ?Mexican? food. We will give them another shot but will definitely not go back forwhat tasted like reheated uncle Ben?s rice and other not tasty Americanized Mexican food. Honestly the menu was large andappealing but the food did not deliver. Taco Bell does a better job if that helps. The drinks were good and the churros weretasty but only offered raspberry sauce. We kinda expected more from the price point. Also this business is really set up tolook like an awesome fish dinner kinda joint and being so close to the lake you would expect some fantastic local fresh catchwith their island theme. Honestly I thought it was so cute I might apply for a job? until I tasted the food. First time. Recent transplant from the West Coast looking for genuine Mexican food. LAST TIME. Two stars. One for the decor. One... for the plethora of parking. That's about where it ends. This so-called Mexican food comes nowhere even close to the Mexicancuisine of the Southwest. Starting with the chips and salsa, which requested if they had anything spicier was not even anywhereto found....cost; $2 which is usually complimentary. Chicken tortilla soup doesn't even hold a candle. Don't even know where tostart with the margarita. For nine bucks you'd expect at least to be served in a margarita glass instead of a beer stein. Tablesalt on the rim...you kidding me? On to the entree...fajitas. Steak/Chicken combo. On the plus side where the sideaccouterments. No beans served here. WTH??? By the time the tortilla soup was ordered, fajitas where right around the corner.Really? No sizzling platter? More like steamed oversized veggies and day old meat scooped out of a large pot. I maymention...barely and protein. This has got to be the most disgusting fajitas I have ever had with a puddle of water as remains.I know this place has been around for some time and perhaps it has a strong following. Bar area looks quaint and most likely funto hang out for happy hour. Perhaps the burger may be a better choice but bottom line...this place holds no candle no matter howlong they have been in business when it comes to Mexican style food. Check out El Fuego in Cedar Grove, Tejos in Port or DailyTaco in Theinsville as a more authentic choice. FYI...Chips are free and refillable with HOT salsa. Read more
I drove by the restaurant several times when I was working at St Mary's Ozaukee. Colleague said it was good. I think that was... not quite correct. It was GREAT! Coleslaw was a surprise with a few raisins mixed in which really added to overall taste. I donot like sweet and this was just perfect. I was fortunate enough to stop on a Friday evening and had the Lake Perch fish fry.It is was absolutely delicious and fresh Two small suggestions, more of a personal preference: I like my food pipping hot andhave malt vinegar available. This place lacks the Mexican touch! The menu seemed promising however it lacked BIG TIME. We placed our ordered and within 5... mins everything came out. That was already ???? sus. I ordered the Steak and Chicken Fajitas to share. The portion was poor. Thesteak was by far the worst I've had. It was thick, fatty and chewy. I got 3 to 3.5 pieces of steak and about 3 pieces ofchicken. ALL with NO FLAVOR. No season. We also ordered the kids chicken quesadilla. It was a sloppy mess and super greasy. Notgood. A burrito bowl which was probably the winner out of everything. But it also lacked flavor. We decided to order a side ofrice and beans which came out as quick as the waitress put it in. It was DISGUSTING! It definitely a reheated Uncle Ben's box ofrice. Beans definitely came out of some kind of prepackaged bag. The chips and salsa had more seasoning then the fooditself!.???? However whatever the season is it's disgusting. I think those who rave about this place might have had too manymargaritas to even notice how terrible the food is. I was excited to eat there because the ladies at the front desk were verywelcoming and it seemed like a fun atmosphere. What a big disappointment. Bathrooms needed some attention. ???? Read more
