Reviews for Memphis Chess Club in Memphis, TN
This cafe offers delicious food, and it's fun place to play chess or simply enjoy a coffee, a meal, to study or work. It's a... place that gives you a rich sense of history as soon as you walk in the door - every wall is decorated with chess pressclippings and memorabilia, especially that which deals with the 100+ year history of the Memphis chess club. A truly uniqueenvironment - if you're visiting Memphis, it's definitely worth a visit. Read more
Good environment, good chess community, one star for service? be careful about which coffee you order because if you happen to... not like the coffee you order or if the staff happens to make a mistake making your coffee, that?s too bad. the Memphis chessclub seem to have a strict policy to refuse remaking any coffee beverages that turn out incorrectly. there are also no refundsallowed on the coffee drinks at this establishment. however, the staff suggestion seems to be that you can happily try your luckagain and purchase a brand new coffee drink in hopes that it?s better the second time around. Great casual, order-at-the-counter restaurant in a very cool space. Varied, comfortable seating and an upstairs loft area. Lots... of students working on laptops and families with children playing chess. Large, tasty sandwiches as well as pizzas! Read more
Love this place. My husband plays there. They have classes throughout the week, many tournaments and other events for chess... players. For non chess players, they still have a lot to offer. Great food and drinks. Chill vibe. Loads of other boardgames torent. Great place to study while my husband is playing. Read more
If you are a chess connoisseur, this is your place. However, if you are not, still it?s your place. The place is informal, laid... back, and pretty cool. I visited during the weekend in lunch hours. The hall was packed, all the tables have in built chessboard on it. They have a basement and a first floor too. There were people working, chatting, or, chilling. There is a piano, anybody can Play. The food menu is not elaborate. I ordered a sandwich, which was decent . It was not served with any sides. DoI added fries as a side. Well, I was disappointed. The fries were cold, hard and dry. Surely, the fries were not made fresh. Icould not finish eating. I got myself a cup of coffee, which was good. A lot of people were eating pizza there. it seems pizzawas good. Next time I going to try pizza! Read more

I?m not a member of the chess club however, we did stop in for a casual afternoon lunch. The ambiance was unique and relaxing.... The food was decent - they offer sandwiches, pizza, salads, coffee. Seating is somewhat limited for families. Most tables aresetup for two (chess). There are larger tables for parties more than two. Like most coffee shop, there were several tablesoccupied by people studying or working and they were occupying the largest tables but not eating/drinking. A little aggravatingfor a family looking for somewhere to sit. Read more
The pizza's crust was more of a Flatbread cracker and the garlic on the pizza tasted weird, not as expected. The games are fun,... only $5. Also you get $2 back for parking next door in the garage. The white guy working there - had an attitude. Overall greatplace to hangout and play games, while enjoying a cookie. Read more
