Imagine my delight discovering an unexpectedly good Mexican taqueria in my travels through Memphis. As a Californian, I... typically have high expectations for my Mexican cuisine. Maciel's did not disappoint and provided some truly delicious food. Iordered the spicy chicken quesadilla and every bit of it was fresh, delicious and well-made. More surprising still, my foodarrived extremely fast (<7 minutes). Another highlight was the excellent service. Between the gentleman taking our order andthe efficient bussing of the tables their staff provided Maciel's definitely operate like a well oiled machine. The way google took me parking is kind of crazy but worth it. I truly enjoyed this little spot, I really have a Boujee taste for... food Memphis lack Boujee for me. Just to start this out as honestly as i can, we had just gotten out of a 6+ hour long drive so we were hungry and sorta didn't... care about what to get just knew we wanted food! With that being said this food was amazing, we both got the Veggie Burrito anda fountain drink. Food didn't take long to get to us, we were seated upstairs, which on its own is a completely differentexperience that we weren't expecting, you walk into a small entrance where you can see the cooks making the orders and you placeyour order at the counter, not gonna lie the downstairs isn't much to look at but I do appreciate being able to see the cooks,not for security or anything, just because you don't see that too often. After you make your order you're walked upstairs andseated in this very nice large room with many tables chairs and even a bar! We came towards the middle of the day so we didn'texperience any drinks unfortunately. Beautiful space, great design and lots of natural lighting, the atmosphere was very niceand refreshing. The food, now the food was super surprising not to say that we're expecting it to be bad but in my experienceanything Veggie or vegetarian usually has a tendency of being a bit bland and or being filled with lettuce where the meatwould've been, which is sad because that means many places rely heavily on meat to bring the flavor, but our burritos were sodelicious! The burritos had lots of flavor with nothing overpowering anything but instead everything complimenting everythingelse rather well, they had actually used potatoes in the burritos as the protein replacement and i was very much elated at that,because let's be honest you can do so much with potatoes and they absolutely paired well in the burrito, I personally don't likespicy anything so when I saw jalapeños I was a bit worried, but they're actually pickled jalapeños with other vegetables andthey added such a fresh taste and nice bite I was very much pleasantly surprised. Great place for some street tacos.. Perfect for grab and go or to sit and eat. If you're going to dine in, head upstairs where... the area is more open and the view is better. The wait staff will bring you chips and queso and will refill your drinks whileyou wait for them to bring your order to you. Overall, great value for the money. I frequently get carry out or delivery from Maciel's downtown! The tacos are delicious and to-go orders are always packed... accurately. Oh my goodness! This is a gold mine. I ordered a shrimp burrito and, just for fun, a spicy chicken street taco. Chips and salsa... came with the meal. The salsa had awesome spices. the chips weren't the best, but still good. The shrimp burrito was top notch!It came with beans and rice. The spicy chicken street taco was full of spiciness! WOW! HOUSE-MADE chips are great! Walked from the hotel for an early dinner. Had Cheese dip and then fried tacos with refried beans.... Too much food but I ate it all, for under $20 with a drink. Rice was exceptional, particularly with some added cheese dip. Read more
