We were in Melbourne for a comedy show and decided to get up early the next day and find a good place to get breakfast. We... decided on Backwater based on the reviews and numbers of reviews and it definitely lived up to the hype. It was busy when wewalked in so we decided to sit at the bar (the tables have griddles built into the middle so you can make your own pancakes)since there wasn't a wait for those seats. My girlfriend ordered the breakfast platter and I ordered 2 of their seasonalpancakes and a side of biscuits and gravy (we saw someone else's order coming out with it and it looked so good). 10/10 forsure. The pumpkin pancakes were amazing. The bacon was thick and perfectly cooked. And the biscuits and gravy were to die for.The gravy is probably some of the best sausage gravy I've ever had. They even had one of my favorite beers (Crooked Can FloridaSunshine) on tap but it was 8:30 in the morning so I somehow managed to resist. We couldn't finish it all but I'm glad weordered what we did because it was fantastic. If I make it back, I will definitely sit at a table and try the griddleexperience. Service was also top notch! Went here today for my wife?s birthday. Everything was super delicious. Had the steak sandwich, and tomato bisque. Wife had... the bourbon revival. SO GOOD! All of it. Definitely going back and will absolutely recommend to others. Parking is definitelybetter at the N Wickham one. They?re both really good though. Love this spot, and when you go to this one you can walk around toother shops. Read more

Known for its pancake tables which I never had a chance to sit at because it is always crowded here for brunch. Although the... home made potato was overcooked, the pancakes and chicken fries were excellent. Need to have your name in the waiting list andcome back in 1 hour. It looks like a fun place for families with children to make their own pancakes, as it is entertaining forthem. Read more

This was a definite stop if you are in the Melbourne area. It?s a brunch style restaurant with a great atmosphere. You have the... option to pick a table with a grill in front of you. I had the boss hog was incredibly amazing. It has cheese grits, sausage, bacon, and a sunny side egg on top, just phenomenal. Our waiter his name escapes me but a true example of hospitality. He saidhe was new but from my experience he was beyond qualified for his position. Make an effort to visit this restaurant the foodisn?t expensive and they give you a good portion. 5 stars! I already want to go back. We were visiting friends that live in the area and they were so excited to take us here. Service was... great and the menu was even better. We made pancakes with different flavored batters and toppings in combinations we had neverbefore thought of. The price was good and did I say we already want to go back? Read more

This restaurant is hands down one of the best and unique places to eat! The food was amazing! The vegan gravy is addictive. Some... tables have griddles for making your own pancakes. How cool is that. The kids loved it! Definitely worth the wait. We will beback when in the area again. Read more

This place is awesome. All the waiting is done outside. Once inside service is so good and so smooth. Food is delicious. I... advise to get the seasonal pancakes. They were amazing! It was all very good. But the seasonal (gingerbread) was phenomenal.Wish we could have come back for January's snickerdoodle. Next year... Read more

My family and I had a wonderful breakfast here recently. We got a color pack and a buttermilk to share among the 9 of us, 5 kids... and 4 adults. We had more than enough pancake batter. The orange juice was the best I've ever had in my life and I love OJ. Theonly gripe I have, and it's pretty minor but kept from going full 5 stars, was that the toppings for the pancakes were verysmall considering the price. Overall though 100% worth the visit and the most of the time long wait time. We'll be back. Read more
