Reviews for The Pantry Restaurant in McKinney, TX
I used to frequent this restaurant in the 90?s? we looked forward to eating here on our shopping trips on the square. Feeling... nostalgic, I brought my cousin here and I was SOOOO disappointed! This was the lettuce that came on the pitiful hamburger with astale bun and barely melted piece of cheddar cheese. (Wish I had thought to take a picture) With all the new restaurant choicesin downtown McKinney, I?m surprised they are surviving! Read more
Not much hospitality at all to be honest. There were four of us, and here is what we ordered 1. Chicken fried chicken with eggs... and potatoes 2. Biscuits and gravy with potatoes 3. Stuffed French toast cream cheese 4. Chicken spaghetti The first one wasokay. The oil was clearly old. Not much flavor. Eggs were okay. Potatoes are just horrible. The second one was dry. Not enoughgravy. Plus gravy was cold. Potatoes once again horrible. The third one was okay. The cream cheese didn't look like creamcheese. Didn't really look appealing. Plus there was a typo on the menu so we were expecting strawberries with it, but when theybrought it to us there were no strawberries. They ended up giving us strawberries at the end. The fourth one was okay. Overall,it was okay. Food was edible. There are plenty of places with much better food. Don't waste your time. Read more
Unpretentious. Had the club and loaded fries. Club a little bland and dry. I make better fries at home, very little toppings... here. 50+ flavored ice cream. Read more
Great food in downtown McKinney in an old historic building with a lot of character. Walk up counter to order old time favorites... like meatloaf, chicken fried chicken or steak along with many other favorites and a great Breakfast menu. The wife and I bothordered the chicken fried chicken ($9.99) and with two sides each was exactly what you'd expect. Our grandson had the chickenstrip basket. For dessert we had coconut cream pie and pecan pie with whip cream and ice cream. Everything was great. If youfind yourself hungry in downtown McKinney stop by The Pantry Restaurant and give them a try. Read more
If you love true, classic American cuisine then this is the place. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes, fried... okra and green beans with also some onion rings I shared with my friend and the chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked, niceand crispy the steak itself was juicy, the gravy tasted real and perfectly seasoned, the mash potatoes were classic with realpotato skin left in it and was also decently seasoned, the okra was nice and crunchy and the onion rings were probably the bestwith perfectly done batter with an amazing taste, the only complaint I would give is the green beans weren't seasoned, justseemed to be warmed up and put on a plate, not actually cooked homemade style, so maybe don't buy those, otherwise everythingelse tasted good. Food was good but their forte is the variety of booze milkshakes. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was good. For... breakfast I can recommend the stuffed french toast but the apple pie was bland and ended up disappointing me. Very old schoolsetting in a historic building from the 1800s. Not bad but not the greatest either. Read more

We went as a group to The Pantry for dinner and while the menu has great variety, we were surely disappointed in the quality. ... It's almost as if they precook everything then warm it up. I ordered the chicken fried steak, which was okay but the mashedpotatoes and gravy were all cold. The fried okra had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp. Others in the party had the sameexperience, luke warm chicken spaghetti, over cooked onion rings (again almost like they were cooked, then recooked to heatup). The restaurant is also self-serve. You order at the counter and they will bring out but pretty much everything else is onyour own. The ice-cream store is wonderful but while in a shared location, it is not part of The Pantry. Just okay but forwhat you spend on food, there are MUCH MORE better options downtown! Read more
