A little but busy restaurant in the J town of Markham. A little disappointed by the dish we ordered on the brunch menu, Deep... fried oyster is really deep and over. The fresh oyster is great though. The regular menu changes by season, all pairs well witha good drink they serve. Read more

I was so impressed with their holiday dinner. Great serving size. Perfect flavour and execution. The Turkey wasn?t dry. The... sweet potatoes and stuffed potatoes were tender but not over cooked. Everything was nicely seasoned. Only complaint is theyreally should have provided more gravy. I would definitely recommend this meal for those who don?t have time to cook. Read more

We love Tanuki, despite it replacing the awesome Shiso Tree located in the J-Town plaza. I've been to this restaurant a few... times and the food had always been delicious, service and staff been great. Having tried quite some dishes, I really enjoyedthe Kaki Fry (oysters) and Kaeshi Karaage (chicken) for appetizers. As for entrees, my favourite would be the omurice.. thecurry was not bad too. The place still has a similar vibe as the previous restuarant and in the summer, you can also sit at itspatio area. During the most recent visit, my party had an awkward experience which led me to minus a star. Tanuki is a verywelcoming place, but since that visit, I have to reconsider truly. That day, all the waitresses were wearing really short shirtsand one was even wearing an activewear outfit you would wear to a hike/gym instead of something you wear while serving tables -workout crop top and tight yoga shorts where the outline of lady parts are showing! I find this very inappropriate for the job(you aren't Hooters) and when there are kids present, especially for a family friendly dining place. Hope this gets addressedwith the owner soon or a one-off. Read more

Great food and portions, with a beautiful patio for the summer. The Tanuki breakfast for brunch is my favorite out of the 4... dishes ee tried. Our server Rachel was so patient and friendly. They don't take brunch reservations for small groups so makesure to come early. Read more

The Pig Knuckle is a BIG surprise!! Until it arrived at my table, I just realized how large the pig thigh was!! It has the... sweet taste sauce/soup I like, and its skin just melts in my mouth, yet the meat ???? is filling me with all the warm energy forthe chill evening. It came with a bowl of rice with 2 sweet potato slices on the side. If you don't have a sweet tooth, thenthis might not be your cup of tea!! Another one is Oxtail, the most expensive one on the main course, I didn't pay too muchattention to that since I am busy fighting with the knuckle, it is well made according to the friend who ordered it. And theUmeshu beverage, the sweet plums liquor, the ladies' favor, rumor said it can easily make them drunk in no time when no otherfoods in stomach. Better watch out!! Read more

Pretty awesome Japanese restaurant!! Their Karaage tastes really good! With a touch of soy souse and sesame seeds brings the... flavour to the next level. We tried Taro chips, Grilled veggies, Karaage as sides, Omurice, Curry, and fried ramen as main.Every dish tastes above expectation. The omurice is not using normal ketchup (tomato)sauce but uses mushrooms and chicken stewinstead, the sauce is creamy and tasty, matching the soft eggs on the top. Another highlight is their Taro Chips!! You justcan?t stop once you eat one chip!!! Read more

Weekend lunch Croquet was huge size but maybe not enough for normal men daily portion. But Omurice portion was large. It was... little salty side but not too bad. rice was more close to risotto texture than fried rice but that was fine with us. The foodwas served right time. Its not perfect but good to have a quick meal or drink while visiting J-town Read more

Tanuki is a nice cozy place, it's modern yet casual, so it's a good low key chilling spot. The server was courteous and... friendly. We started off ordering 2 cocktails to start. One of the drinks is Yuzu Gin & Tonic. I don't remember the other. Asfor food, we ordered 2 main course to share. One of them is the Tonkatsu Curry. It's the typical Japanese curry. This is a goodportion size with good amount of steam rice and the Japanese curry has a nice heat and not as sweet as other Japanese curry. Iprefer not so sweet curry so this was perfect. However, I did mentioned to the server that the rice was nice and hot intemperature but the curry sauce was lukewarm so perhaps try to match the hot temperature before scooping the curry sauce ontothe rice. The pork cutlet was nicely fried and prepared. Crunchy outside and juicy tender inside, which was excellent. As forthe Flying  Squid Pesto Pasta, luv the flavour of the pesto and the green colour pasta. However, at $17, I would prefer to havea little bit more fried calamari. Coz after one part of the calamari for each of us, there ain't  any squid left. I wouldexpect more portion of squid for this dish. Otherwise, it's a nice dish. We would like to come back in the summer andexperience the outdoor patio. Perhaps there will be other new dishes and cocktails to try comes in the summer days. Read more
