Was greeted by a gentleman, we had reservations, was my cousins birthday, started off w/Tom./mozzarella, I had lemon sole w/veg.... Then they sang HB, brought out slice of cheese cake, choc. Cake & apple strudel sort of. Was very thoughtful of them. Would goagain. Oh before I forget their liquid soap dispenser had the best smell, to was hands, somet lavender? Chao? Read more
Owned by a father and sons. Like being invited to their home. My wife and I had yet another fantastic dinner!
Disappointed. We've been to Stresa on a number of visits for a few years and have had both good cuisine and positive service,... hence our repeat custom. Tonight's meal, however, was completely out of wack. On two occasions, once in an appetizer, andanother in a main course, we found what appearred to be pieces of packaging in our meal - upon notifying the staff, the headwaiter would on both occasions initially apologised disgruntingly, and then became terse when we expressed our concern about thefind. Secondly, two main courses, the sauteed veal and the lamb ravioli, we're both seasoned in such a way that it tasted morelike a odd Chinese meal than Italian (I'm ethically Chinese and have lived in Italy, there is a difference in cuisine) - I'munsure if it was the intended flavour, but that was indeed my takeaway from tonight's experience - substantially sub-par. Walked into Stressa on a Wednesday afternoon at 12 noon sharp. The restaurant had approximately 3 tables seated. Not a single... Wai staff was visible, waited by the front door for approximately 2 minutes when I grew tired and walked inside the restaurantto look for a staff member to be seated. I went into the back of the restaurant by the kitchen entrance and waited another 2minutes before I was seen by anyone to be seated. The restaurant does a virtual menu via a QR code by the table side, toaccommodate for safety practices due to the covid-19 virus. The wait staff brought out some warm rolls and breadsticks, thebreadsticks appeared to be imported from Italy and were a decent appetizer with the whipped butter they brought out. The rollswere a bit lacking and were on the hard and stale side...there was a bit of a refrigerator taste to them. Onto the main dish, Iordered the parpadelle with porcini mushroom sauce. The sauce for this dish was quite delicious as there were diced and sautéedporcini mushrooms in this sweet sauce...as for the parpadelle. You could tell the pasta was fresh however I question the chefwho prepared the pasta today as I found certain parts of the pasta to be undercooked. I like my pasta al dente any day of theweek however today's parpadelle were inedible due to it being too hard. I tried my best to ignore that part but it virtuallyruined the harmony of the dish, the sauce/ragu was perfect if only the pasta matched it would have been a great dish. Ended themeal with a cup of coffee which was a nice way to start digesting after a hearty pasta dish, the coffee comes with some slicesof a almond biscotti and accompany the coffee quite well. All in all I think the food could be so much better if they were moreattentive to the detail of the cooking time of the pasta. Read more
