Reviews for The Inn at Stonecliffe in Mackinac Island, MI
This review is about my reservation for Sept. 15th 2018. This is literally the worst experience I've had at any hotel ever--and... I've stayed and probably more than 100. We arrived at the island by ferry at about 6PM for a one night stay which was about $450if I remember correctly. I was surprised to find a concierge waiting by the ferry who gladly collected our bags and offered us ashuttle to the hotel (which was included in the rate). We told him that we wanted to walk around a bit and have dinner beforeheading to the hotel. The concierge gave us a phone number to call when we were ready to head to the hotel (which is about2miles from the ferry if I remember correctly). We had dinner and a drink and then called the number we had been given. Noanswer. Tried again and again for about 15-20 minutes and finally gave up and decided to walk to the hotel. When we arrived, itwas already dark (probably after 9PM), we immediately noticed my GFs bag sitting on a bench out-side the hotel in the dark.Anyone could've walked up and taken it. Knowing that in the bag was a very expensive camera, I was pretty frustrated to see itjust left on a bench outside when we had entrusted them with our belongings. We went inside and I began to explain thenon-working number we were given and my concerns about our things being left outside in the dark and they actually tried todismiss us. The didn't even address the fact that they stranded us and argued with me that the bag was safe and no one wouldtouch it. Well---where is my bag then I asked them (it wasn't outside). They couldn't find it. For 20-30 mins I had to sit inthe lobby, rage brewing listening to the desk manager try to convince me why its not problem to leave our stuff outside, knowingthis is BS. It doesn't matter what they think. They are our things and they were entrusted to them--not to mention they neverprovided the shuttle that was part of the room rate. Thankfully they finally found my bag. At this point I was c Read more
Room was okay. Pretty expensive for the size and quality. We went in July, and the room could not have been hotter. The... window had no screen, so we couldn't keep it all the way open without letting bugs in. Moreover, the restaurant wasn't great. It was very pricey, and worse than the other restaurants on the island. If you plan on walking back from downtown, it's areally long walk. My family dreaded the walk back to the inn every night. The manager was very accommodating. I wouldn't stayhere again. Read more
Beautiful setting for our son's fall wedding. The juxtaposition between the historical elegance of the mansion, combined with... the convenience of the summer house, made for a lovely experience for our Bride & Groom and guests. From an operationalstandpoint, there are definite "kinks" that need to be ironed out, however, recognition must be awarded to Grant, the employeeextraordinaire, who tended to absolutely every need we may have had, and even some suggestions he made proactively. Grantembodies the true definition of exemplary work ethic, problem solving, excellence in service, to mention only a few. Thank youfor a wonderful experience. Read more
We attended a wedding at the Stone Cliff and what a magical place to have a reception. The expansive grounds with the bridge... view are spectacular. We stayed in the summer house and the room had a very large covered patio. An opportunity for improvementwould be to replace the hard foam pillows with soft feather pillows and upgrade the mattresses on the beds. You should also benoted that the Inn is 1 3/4 miles from downtown with limited dining options in the immediate vicinity. Read more
We stayed in the Jardin room directly over the entrance to the lobby with the window open. How did I sleep? Was it annoying with... the lobby noise? Not at all! Slept so well! I woke up to the clomping hooves of the taxi. Breakfast was simple and a sufficientstart to a day filled with walking the island... We walked 12 miles Saturday! Over all it was a wonderful refreshing weekend.Absolutely loved staying away from the bustle of the town tucked away in the woods. Highly recommend it! Can't wait for my nexttrip! Read more
Very nice hotel, my wife and I stayed at the summer house in one of the patio suites. It was very nice to stay on the other side... of the island away from the touristy downtown. Staff is very helpful the whole experience is much quieter here. It is over amile away from Main Street so I highly recommend calling ahead and booking a shuttle. And booking your return shuttle as soon asyou check in because they are slow and hard to come by. (No fault of the hotels it?s part of the island) Read more
This place is one of the most cleanest hotels I ever stayed at! I used to work in a hotel and travel for work. I had stayed at... many hotels in the past! This place doesn't compare! Extremely clean, super friendly staff, great view, great food! One sidenote. I think you should consider on getting better toilet paper. For the price that you charge for a night. The toilet papercould definitely could have been better! ???? ???? ???? Read more
We Love Stoncliffe. It is always our First choice of places to stay when we are on MACKINAC. We just returned home from the... island, but, unfortunately, Stonecliffe is closed for renovations this summer. The staff is amazing! We stay in the SummerHouse. The rooms are darling and spacious. The breakfasts are delicious and dinner at the Cudahay chophouse is a specialexperience. There is also an outdoor pool and the lawn looking out onto the bridge is spectacular! Read more
