Visiting from Kentucky and read some great reviews, so it felt necessary to check out. We made reservations and finding the... location/getting in was easy to navigate. My husband and I were seated in the library, which was beautiful. Our waitress,Ashley, was superb at helping us navigate the menu. We tasted a total of four cocktails, each were fantastic. The best cocktailswe have ever had. Matt?- the mixologist- stopped by to check in on us as well. The entire experience was a highlight and wecould not recommend it more Read more

I spent the last three years living in Japan, exploring and loving all their high end, top notch cocktail bars, which are unlike... any other place in the world. Well, for about two hours on a backstreet of Louisville, I was transported back there. Hell orHighwater reminded me so much of some of my favorite bars in Japan- like Bar Trench, Bible Club in Osaka, Bar Benfiddich. Ican’t say enough good things about our experience. The menu of cocktails was fantastic. Even better, they accommodated our offmenu requests for classics like a Blood & Sand and a Penicillin. Their classic whiskey sour is also beautiful and creamy. The space is down a long set of stairs, underground space that is dimly lit with live jazz music. Great romantic space, but also... many people brought groups of friends. Must reserve spot before you go! Read more

A neat, hidden 20s themed speakeasy. Sitting at the bar was not an option when I visited in May '22 due to Covid restrictions,... but other seating options in the lounge and library were available. There are no food options, a $10 cover, and reservations arerequired. If you're looking for a private, quiet evening, this is the spot. Read more

This place has an amazing atmosphere, it had a live jazz band, and we had a private beautiful booth with books and a window... overseeing the stage. It was an awesome experience!! The drinks varied in price between $14-20. But I'll be honest, they wereworth it. They were strong and tasted amazing! Read more

This is a hidden gem, as it's intended to be. We went on a Wednesday and were "allowed" to be seated by the hostess even though... we didn't have reservations. The only way we were able to get in was because the secret door at the address was partially open.Despite the lousy weather, this place was busy. The library room and the private rooms were full, but they seated us in thevery comfortable velvet couch area. This is a very cool place and is reminiscent of members only type of clubs or hiddenspeakeasies of the past. It has an air of mystery and adventure abiut it. That style of bar can be found in most cities now andis a fun departure from your average bar. The service was excellent as were the drinks. They will make whatever you want, buttheir cocktail list had some fantastic concoctions. I would definitely recommend a visit here for great drinks in a swankyspeakeasy. Make sure to get reservations because in better weather this place will be full. Read more

This was an amazing find! I booked a table and at the time I didn’t realize I paid $10 per per person (two of us) as a cover... charge. While we had reservations, they still said that our “room” was being cleaned. This had us waiting for 45 minutes. Ididn’t book a room, but apparently it was the best in the house per the staff….and it was! It was worth the wait, but thatsaid- we sadly only had time for one drink and didn’t get to enjoy it. The staff was sweet and friendly. The bar staff wasextremely fast. As for their menu, if you’re not an extreme alcohol enthusiast- you’ll have no idea what’s actually inyour drink. Our waitress was happy to give recommendations! Read more

Without a doubt, MAKE A RESERVATION for this place! You will be absolutely amazed! We were visiting Kentucky for a long weekend... (as we are big bourbon fans) and aside from going to distillery's during our trip, I wanted to venture to some cool bars. Handsdown, this was my favorite place on our trip! The bar is hidden, but relatively easy to find once you're on the street, andthrough the Resy app, it told us to text a number that was given to us once we were there so someone could open the door. Iloved the 1920's vibe of the speakeasy. For those that are fans of Peaky Blinders- you'll get what I'm saying. Definitely aplace Thomas Shelby would have gone to! The speakeasy is so beautiful. The decor is warm, vintage, and it really gives you that"chill" vibe. We made reservations in the Library room (which is free to the public), and I believe the Lounge area is also freeto the public, but make sure to check. Hell or High Water did have some other private rooms, which I believe you had to paymaybe $10 a person to rent, but again, don't quote me on that since we sat in a different room. Our waitress was fantastic -extremely accommodating and helpful with making drink choices. The drinks were a bit pricey, but we didn't care because ourcocktails were fantastic. Honestly, it was hard to not have one of everything on the menu because the drinks were that good!Next time we visit Kentucky, I will 100% return to Hell or High Water. I promise you will not be disappointed! Read more
