After a Kings game we decided to try this venue. Obviously it was busy and since we were a large group-6 people-we were told it... would be a 45 minute wait. Somehow, the doorman was able to get us in quickly. The service was just as fast and friendly. Ourmeal was delicious and served promptly. They have the best macaroni and cheese and cornbread. This was our 1st time there for my mom's birthday, upon walking in, the hostess greeted us she was friendly with a nice smile.... The atmosphere is nice and pleasant the music was not too loud. The place and bathrooms were clean. Our waitress Corinna wasnice, pleasantand friendly. We ordered oxtails with mac & cheese, my mom and her friend ordered shrimp and grits and muffins Lemonade and water, For dessert my mom's friend had peach cobbler they gave us a red velvet cake with a candle in it for mymom's birthday. My mom and friend enjoyed the shrimp and grits. As for me, my oxtails were not that tender the gravy was thickand sweet reminded me of some thick barbecue sauce, my Mac and cheese Not enough cheese and kind of tasted like yams. Now forthe dessert the peach cobbler I couldn't tell because it was way too juicy I couldn't see any crust or peaches now the redvelvet cake was good and moist even the whipped cream wasn't too sweet and To top it off the lemonade tasted like lemonadecool aid. I will have to go back at least 2 more times to try the catfish or the catfish nuggets and the chicken and waffles. Read more
I really wanted to love Fixins but the food was mediocre at best. First, the ambiance and the inside is very nice. The staff was... nice and we had a very good server but none of this could compensate for the lack of flavor in the food. The okra tasted like ithad too much vinegar. The collard greens were inedible and everyone at our table sent them back to the kitchen. The chicken wasbland and could have used some seasoning. The grits were really good, they were creamy and perfectly seasoned. Sadly the bestpart of the meal was my sweet tea and my waffle. Everything else left much to be desired. The atmosphere was amazing. I loved the music, staff members, and food. The chicken was absolutely amazing. Extremely crispy,... crunchy, and juicy. The fries were crispy as well. Came here on a Saturday for brunch and the place was packed but we (a table of 3) had no wait! The staff were very friendly and... the food was delicious. The mac and cheese was creamy and the red beans and rice were seasoned perfectly. The fried catfish wascooked to perfection and deliciously flaky. Definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone in downtown LA looking for some goodsoul food! Read more
