A classic for a reason ? some of the dishes are a bit overpriced, but Chef Chu?s honestly seems like better value these days... given inflation everywhere, especially at new restaurants. It also has one of the better Peking ducks in the area (remember toorder ahead), and is one of the few that offers the traditional crepes with it upon request, not just mushu wraps Read more

The ambiance and service are good. There seemed to be a second floor that wasn?t open when I went there around 11:30 am on a... weekday. The restaurant was busy and the lower floor was quickly filled. Had high expectation of the food based on reviews. However, I was disappointed. It is more like an American-style Chinese restaurant (a chop suey restaurant ) than a modernauthentic Chinese cuisine place. The clientele seemed to be mainly non-Asian locals. Our party had a sweet and sour soup, which was more concentrated than even in regular chop suey restaurants. The soup was exceedingly salty and spicy. We had aseafood fried noodle and a vegetable shrimp dishes. We asked the waiter for less oil in the noodle. Both dishes were toosalty, however. The salty taste overshadowed the natural flavor of the ingredients. The seafood thus didn?t taste like freshseafood. Perhaps they were not quality seafood ingredients in the first place. The shrimps were not of high quality, and theywere overcooked. They tasted like imitation shrimps if there?s such a thing. Probably not a preferred choice among many betterChinese restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area. Read more

The food isn't bad as your typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. But mix that with a subpar service that borders on rude, and... you get a pretty mediocre experience. We got pickled cucumbers, garlic eggplant, mapo tofu, and general tso's. The mapo tofuwas the most disappointing with its lack of flavor. The rest were OK but nothing impressive. Read more

Great experience at Chef Chu?s for a birthday dinner. We made a reservation for 7 people on a Wednesday evening and they had... reserved one of the private rooms to the left for a big party like ours. I am a vegetarian and I had good options to choosefrom. I liked their vegetarian mapo tofu, kung pao tofu as well as their hot and sour soup. The fried rice was flavorful but notoverpowering. The wait staff had personality, which I love and they took great care of us. The noise levels got a bit high whenanother big party got into the room (there were two large tables). Read more

Been living in Northern California for awhile now and it took me this long to visit Chef Chu's. The food was great. My (prego)... friend and I ordered three dishes for our lunchon rendezvous. The portion was perfect if not smaller to fulfill our ambitiousappetite. The service was good. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Go early if you can as they do get quite busy around12pm. I order extra chashu pork to go before I settle the bill. Boy, was that ever a clever move! ???? The chashu is probablyone of the best ones I have tasted in Northern Cali. It reminded me of Vancouver HK style chashu! ?? The only negative review isthat no sighting of Jon M.Chu. Would have been nice to discuss with him film making and great food over lunch. ????
