They say this is the best deli in NJ. I hope not. Had the pastrami Reuben. It was mediocre, nothing special, from the rye... bread, the pastrami, and the Russian dressing. Just ok. Big portions, and could only eat half of my sandwich, but would haveeaten more if it was good. Corned beef Reuben was the same. Matzo ball soup was the same too. Had better. Another person hadthe cheese steak, and this was the best of the four, but in my opinion still just mediocre. Read more

Yes, yes, and yes, get ready to spend your entire paycheck on 2 sandwiches and if you just got a bonus, you may be able to... squeeze in 2 drinks...BUT, THERE IS NO DENYING THAT AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, THIS IS NJ'S TOP JEWISH SLOPPY JOE LOCATION! ??the owners and the meats are fresh made just the way I request! I can't eat meat with fat. Most dell's will not cut off the fatbut they take their time and always make my sandwiches lean to perfection! I travel from Somerset to Livingston for theirsandwiches only!!! Haven't found a spot that can top the taste yet! Oh well, I guess their still stuck with me for a littlewhile longer! Absolutely LOVE EPPS & Essen! Read more

Ordered corned beef sandwiches for about $22 each and that apparently includes an unpleasant helping of gristle or something... similar. I think the fries were $8 an order, and the staff made us feel like we were all trapped in a gulag. Won't be back! Read more

When my parents were alive they told me about this delicatessen and why they never went here. And they were exactly correct.... Overrated, overpriced and overhyped. My stuffed derma look like it was made in a diner in Louisiana as well as the gravy. Thewaitress brought me the wrong soup that I ordered and then the matzoh ball soup came out cold. I wanted to order a sandwich butI thought the prices were for catering and then I realized it was for individual sandwiches. No wonder the star ledger doesn?teven rank it in the top 10 in the state. My favorite deli is located in Clark which I think is the best in the state. I went tothe men?s room before I paid the check it when I came back my table was cleared off and somebody was already sitting therebefore I could come back and pay the check. That?s why I always listened to my parents, rest in peace, especially when it cameto Food. Read more
