Can't come here to see the people I wanna see and support the bands I want to because of staff. I have some ears over in that... place and what they are saying is a new owner but the same people more or less. It's up to them to reconcile but I have to makemy voice loud for this situation. Ps. . to the response they gave me, it's ok. I just wanted to put it to rest and know more onwhat the hang ups were. I didn't think I would like this place because Payne Ave doesn't have the best reputation, but I went to see a concert there... last year and I had the best time. Been back several times since and still having fun. Lots of comfortable places to sit. Enoughroom to do whatever in front of the band. Clean bathroom. Lovely tiled 20ft ceilings with great acoustics. Excellent (new)management and staff. The food is good when the grill is hot. Never had any safety issues with the neighborhood. I smoke outsidethe front of the building and never felt uncomfortable. They have a watchful bouncer who keeps a good eye out. This placeattracts kind patrons from all walks of life. I've spent a lot of time in other St. Paul neighborhood establishments andNorthStar Bar & Grill is just a good if not better for reasons related to its rich history. Even without an elevated stage, thelive music is excellent every time. I like their acoustics but had to wear ear plugs the other night when a band brought a tonof apps (see pic). It has an intimate welcoming vibe. Parking has never been an issue on Payne Ave. At closing time, theneighborhood seems quiet and sleepy. Read more

I remember the bar before this one.. Definitely am upgrade! Now just add the cognac to the bottles and we got a 5 star!!
As of 5/20/22 - Temporarily closed. Should be reopening soon. Friendly service, good food and reasonable prices. Amazing what... the new management has done here. While this is the same location as the old Louie's, it's a totally different experience. Read more
We had lunch at NorthStar today and the food was very good. The burgers are huge! They have entertainment too. The Karaoke on... Wednesday is a blast, heavy metal on Thursdays, and bands Friday and Saturday. You'll find they also have Bingo and MeatRaffles. It's a really eclectic and fun place. Read more
I went Thursday night for reggae night and had the jerk chicken plate. It was very delicious. Had a drink from the bar and the... bartender was super cool. They also had a life dj spinning dancehall and reggae music. Great chill laid back environment. I?llgo back. Read more
