So a review from someone who actually ate there: the environment was very quaint and romantic. My wife and I enjoyed a very nice... dinner and there were several elements that made it special. First, our server made an excellent wine selection for what ourdinner choices were going to be. It paired well with the short rib and lamb and pork Bolognese. It was nice to hear the chef askthe waiter as well, why he offered this wine suggestion - a good working knowledge of food and wine pairs. We had the trout anddate salad appetizers, very good - though portion size left something to be desired. Flavors were absolutely perfect across thewhole meal. The staff was attentive and timed the meal perfectly; taking care to make sure nothing was out too quickly or tooktoo long. Finished with dessert which also had excellent complimentary flavors. All of the ingredients tasted very fresh. Forthe quality of the food the price was much better than most restaurants in the same level of quality. Read more

Want an honest review? Here it is. First I want to start by stating- this restaurant has been review bombed by upset... neanderthals. Disregard any of reviews stating the following: "the waitress did this/that" "the food sat under heat lamps" "ittook over an hour to get our food" "it is unsanitary" "they force their beliefs on me" The staff is entirely male. Its clearthat people posting reviews like this have never been to the restaurant. Likewise, the restaurant does not have heat lamps ofany kind. That is information you can gather by looking at photos of the interior of the restaurant. The restaurant seats maybe50 individuals. Roughly 6 staff total (7 including the dishwasher) on the premise at any given time. Four of those staff membersare working the kitchen. Having worked in a restaurant myself, that seated 120, with myself and one other person easilymanaging, it should be obvious that the food did not take an hour to arrive at our table. Everything was coursed outappropriately. We sat and finished our main meal within 45 minutes. Typically a restaurant books a table in 90 minute blocks. Sonot only did the food arrive in an appropriate time manner, we were left with plenty of time to sit and finish our wine, followed by dessert. With my food and beverage experience comes certifications in cleanliness and health standards. The Red Henwas immaculate. Everything was neat an organized. Given the kitchen and dining room are clearly within sight of each other, itwould be appalling to see any grime, insect, or blemish that would detract from the experience. The Red Hen went above andbeyond with their cleaning standards. Unfortunately this small and humble establishment has been negatively impacted after thekerfuffle with Ms. Sanders. Given that many outspoken businesses discriminate against individuals by denying them service, Ifind it odd that the Red Hen has received such backlash. The staff at Red Hen is polite, well-intentioned, and vehemently agai Read more

Reservation app and previsit communications were a bit overwhelming. For example, online reservation required credit card in... case of default, and a text 30 minutes before my 5 pm reservation let me know that my reservation would be released if I was 15minutes late. Once there, everything was terrific. Decor quaintly lovely. Trout dish perfect. Lemon cake with strawberriesand lemon meringue delicious. Service attentive. Well worth all the details. Read more

Situated in a cute little red house on the corner of Main Street in Lexington, this spot has just a few tables and gives you the... feeling of personal attention. My salmon was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The cheese board was nicely done with aselection that pleased everyone at the table. Everything we tried was delicious. Special shout out for the bibb lettuce saladthat was the perfect lead up to dinner. Unlike salads you get in so many restaurants, this one was clearly fresh and quitedelicious. Read more

An all around fantastic experience. Food was thoughtful in every way, from temperature to presentation to quality of... ingredients(heavy focus on local farms). Our server, Darrin, was attentive, genuine and prompt with his service. He washospitable, funny and gave “passion-driven” recommendations. The cocktails were delicious and unique, and the wineselection was diverse and extremely approachable. Nice work, Red Hen. Read more

My favorite restaurant I’ve been to. I lived in Lexington for four years and have frequented the Rex Hen dozens of times for... nights with delicious food, impeccable service, and great friends. The space is intimate and cozy, and it’s always neat to seethe kitchen at work from a dining room table. I love the unique and colorful pottery dishes. The menu changes weekly withwhatever is in season, and the kitchen and serves are always so knowledgeable and truly care about their dishes, produce, andcustomers. Every time I have a meal, I never think it can get better, and it always does! My favorite is the duck with fruitycompote, and the roasted chicken is always perfect. I love to start with a soup or cheese board split between the table. Dessertis non-negotiable—the house lemon meringue is tart and knocks it out of the park. The after dinner coffee with liqueur is oneof the best drinks I’ve had, and the local coffee is some of my favorite. The staff is incredibly kind, attentive, andaccommodating. I cannot recommend the Red Hen enough! A trip to Lexington is never complete without dinner here. Edit: By theway, you can tell which reviews are fake: Red Hen only uses Earth, Fire, Spirit Pottery (local) for dishes. And, trust me,you’ll always want to take a photo of your food! Read more

What an experience. My husband and I both selected the chef’s menu and had a delightful five-course meal with salmon, Arctic... char, duck, and New York strip and a lemon meringue. Everything about this place exceeds expectations, from the great staff tothe ambient to the unforgettable food. Don’t think twice about it. Just book. Read more
