Reviews for Haywood's Restaurant in Lexington, VA

Generally a prix fixe menu implies a more sophisticated offering, not here. I got a soup that may have come from Campbell's and... a ribeye that had the texture of having been boiled not broiled. The cut was big but quantity does not make up for qualityunless you're going to a golden corale, which would have been preferable especially for the price here. Only saving grace wasthat cocktails were cheap which is needed to deal with the service. How do you run out of bread in the early evening on aweekend? We had fun, the piano bar was nice, we tipped 20% but for $65 prix fixe they need to do better. For reference you cango to a 1 star Michelin restaurant in Beaune France for $40 prix fixe and your wine selection won't be whatever is at waist highlevel on the shelf at kroger. Read more

I wish there were a star for zero!! My wife and I which own a small business veteran owned btw sat at the bar for 5 mins also... spoke to the bartender without any service. We left and went down the street to Macados. To celebrate our small success in atiny town I wanted to take her to a great dinner. No problem spending $2-300 on a meal. I didn’t however give the piano playera $20 tip. It’s almost like this place goes off of how you “look” Definitely do not recommend!! Haywood’s you lost alocal customer and local small veteran owned business owners service! James Youncofski Read more

When we made the reservation we were not told it was going to be only prix fixe menu that night. We had seen the regular menu... online and thought it had some reasonably priced offerings. But those weren't available to us. So we spent well over $400unexpectedly. Since we were taking guests with us it was too awkward to refuse to order food. That kind of circumstance shouldbe made clear at time of reservation. We will not be going back to that place because we don't want to experience such afinancial surprise. Read more

We had a really strange experience outside of Haywood’s when we were harassed for several minutes by two different employees... trying to convince us to eat there. We tried to be polite and in hindsight, we should have just walked away, because they wereincessant, rude, unprofessional and turned us off from ever considering eating there. It was truly bizarre - recommend going upthe street to the Southern Inn instead. Read more

My husband surprised me for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We sat out on the courtyard area that was very cozy. The patio could... use some good music but other than that, The Filet was hands down the BEST I’ve ever had. I savored every bite and it wasworth every penny. Read more

I've been visiting Lexington for years but for some reason or another never made it to Haywood's until last night (1-08-21)... though I've always intended to, and this visit was actually on a whim. My date (a Lexington resident) had mentioned to me thatshe had also never been, and she found that there was a reservation open, so we grabbed it. Haywood's calls itself a piano bar(at least on the cocktail napkins) but it's really an upscale eatery that features live piano, and the music had apparentlybegan just before our arrival at six. While we're on the subject, I'm not sure if the pianist (who was obviously talented) wasplaying from a fake book or from more detailed arrangements, but the tunes seemed to all be in the same upbeat jazz style, eventhough some of the standards could have used more lush and languid arrangements when it came to the ballads. On to the food: westarted with the cheese and charcuterie plate that featured their pickles (made in-house), a Wensleydale lemon cheese (unusualand nice) a balsamic Bellavitano, a unique kiwi and lime jam also prepared in-house, and three cured meats, all beautifullyarranged. Our entrees: for her, the mushroom tagliatelle which she loved and looked terrific and for myself, the grilled bone-inpork chop served with braised red cabbage, German spätzle, and finished off at the table by our server with a pork jus from acarafe. Everything in my dish was perfect and the cut was substantial. (We actually had to pack up part of our entrees for homeas we were foundered on the cheese course.) We also had an a la carte order of their phenomenal roasted Brussel sprouts, so, ofcourse there was no room for dessert. Overall an excellent first impression from an establishment that we'll be getting back tosooner than later now that we know what we've been missing. Read more

My husband and I dined here on a brief trip to Lexington and the entire experience was exceptional. The staff was incredibly... friendly. We started with delicious cocktails. I would strongly recommend the Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned. It was extraordinary. Our dinner was superb. I loved the blue cheese butter on my steak and the truffle mash was outstanding. We found the piano musicto be delightful and added to our experience. I highly recommend dining here. Read more
