Overall it was ok. I got the fish and chips with sweet baked potato and broccoli. Surprised it was just one piece of fish and... not much broccoli. Walking in the staff are pleasant and friendly, this is a community place. My first time here was enjoyable, they have a very... nice and simple menu with your basic breakfast items (sausage, bacon, eggs, country ham, ect) as well as a "Funny Farm" (aWinchell's exclusive item and what I ordered). My server was phenomenal and asked if it was my first time, made recommendationsand when I said I wasn't a fan of pepper jack cheese he let me know what substitutions I could make. I will be coming back,prices are on par with the service you will receive. This place isn't bright in the morning, music is playing and televisionsare on (they play Wildcat games!), but it's very relaxed and laid back. Nothing is too loud or too bright. Read more
A late Sunday lunch brought Fat Man Reviews to Winchell's Restaurant & Bar in Lexington, KY. Winchell's is a family owned sports... bar that offers standard pub grub and Southern favorites. The dishes are made fresh and sourced locally. We started with thePork Quesadillas. This comes with pulled pork, pepper jack, cheddar cheese in grilled flour tortilla. It is also served withsour cream and BBQ sauce. The tortilla is grilled about perfect, both cheeses were melted amazingly, and the pork had awonderful, slightly sweet flavor. I do not believe it is smoked, but it was great nonetheless. The one knock I will give thisdish is that the BBQ sauce arrived hot and did not add to the dish. My fiancé tried the B.L.T. It comes with Apple wood bacon,lettuce tomato, on sourdough (white, wheat, rye also available), and fries. The bacon was think cut and cooked to a great crispychewy bite, and the fries looked hand-cut and were fried pretty well. I have to say that the bread could have been toasted a bitlonger, and the sandwich needed mayo. Other than that it was a really nice sandwich. I had the Chicken Livers dinner, withmashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and country gravy on both the livers and potatoes. The livers were breaded and friedperfectly, not chewy or tough and had a creaminess about them. The potatoes were mashed and seasoned well, with some solidpieces of potatoes as well. The gravy was interesting, as it was a sausage gravy. It worked well with both dishes. The macaroniwas a huge let down. The noodles were over-cooked and the sauce was grainy and not edible. Winchell's Restaurant & Bar offersseveral appetizers, sandwiches, entrées and breakfast as well as a full bar. The service was good and they offer largeportions. This was my third time at Winchell's, and I finally remembered to get a shot of the food! This is the pulled pork entre and... pulled pork enchilada. I am a huge fan of Winchell's take on coleslaw which features vinegar in place of mayo, if I'm notmistaken. Previously I had gotten shrimp and grits, my go-to dish. The servers have always been exceptional. Prices are veryfair. If you like Lexington Diner of Ramsey's, Winchell's is a great next place to try. Read more
Friendly staff music wasn't overly loud you could hold a conversation. Order the BLT with extra bacon on sour dough it was great... with homemade chips. Also the carrot cake is great you gotta eat here!!!!! Read more
The food and service were pretty outstanding. The volume of the place made it hard to understand across the table. Now, if... you're with your buddies and laughing ???? hard, it's a great place. If you're wanting to have conversation with whomever atdinner, not so great. I'd avoid a first date there unless you like saying what quite often? Our server was very great, he tookgreat care of us and very much took customer service as a high priority. The food was OUTSTANDING. The prices were prettyreasonable. The restaurant was clean and inviting. I'd still recommend this place, just plan on having not much conversationoccurring while enjoying some really great food. Read more
