Without any credentials or basis in fact, my girlfriend and I consider ourselves connoisseurs of dive bars. She is a veteran of... the service industry, and I like to drink. I've also lived in 6 different cities around the US, and she was a cross country tourguide. There are certain earmarks of a quality dive. First, you want a varied crowd. An earlier commenter mentioned the diversecrowd, possibly due to karaoke, and I have to agree. There is a palpable feeling of welcome to it. I know that my gf has beenhere at least twice with just girlfriends of her own for company, and had a great time barring one too-persistentsuitor. Second, the best dives cannibalize the others. If you visit for a while, it becomes clear that people leave otherplaces to end their night here. Huge positive vibe to have more folks steadily arriving. Lastly, regular events to make youwant to come back. In this case, it's the karaoke. Wide range of talent present but there will always be applause. Cute stageand a very good song selection.
