We live downtown and go out all the time. We have joked about Oliver Royale in the past because the few times we have tried to... eat there, even if there were multiple empty tables outside, we were told quite smugly (by what we have also joked are the mostunfriendly host and hostesses in the East Tennessee Valley) there was a one or more hour wait time and we should make areservation. Albeit, I fully recommend setting a reservation for weekend brunch anywhere in downtown if you want to be seated inunder an hour; on that same note, most of the best brunch places downtown don’t accept reservations but are well worth thewait: OliBae, The French Market, Ruby Sunshine. TBH one of the best breakfasts downtown can be had at Matt Robb’s, even if theline is out the door, or Potchke, though technically it is in the Old City. So, today, we finally ate brunch at Oliver Royaleand, boy, were we shocked and disappointed. Billed as an “exemplary dining experience” we were completely underwhelmed rightaway as we watched the bartender make our mimosa with prosecco and grocery store juice. The wait time to even get brewed coffeewas surprising, but our rule is to never be in a rush for brunch. When delivered, the coffee was exellent, so we remainedhopeful the food would be worth the extended wait time. The first food item to arrive was the shareable coffee cake – afterapproximately 30 minutes from when we placed the order. As seen in the photo, the cake we received was not fully cooked withhalf the cake still in cake-batter form. In fairness to the server, who was not responsible for making the food, we did not sendit back. However, later as we went to pay, the server noted that the cake taken off our bill. We were thankful but also curiousif that was an indication this was not the first time it happened. We waited an hour for eggs benedict and steak and eggs. Thefood was fine. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was perfect, even if the dish was served closer to ro Read more

The crab cakes were too spicy for my own personal taste, but if you like a mild spice level, then you will like them. I am in my... 50s and I really don't like spicy foods like I did when I was younger. They were thoroughly cooked and presented well. I readthe description of the mashed potatoes but I missed somewhere that they would be covered in sort of a brown gravy or sauce. Ididn't care for that. If I ordered them again I would just ask for them without that sauce. Other than that they were seasonedwell and they tasted good. My husband got the blackened pork chop. It was what you would expect with a blackened pork chop. Itwas cooked thoroughly yet it was not dry. I tried a bit of it and it was well seasoned. He had a sweet tea and he said it wasgood. I had a mixed drink. I believe it was called "in good company" and it was very similar to an Old Fashioned. It tastedgood. The place is very clean and the decor is very nice. The employees are very nice as well. Read more

Small place that is packed in a bit tightly. The bar area is very cluttered and there was a huge pile of dirty dishes that just... sat there the entire time we were there (see photo) Good service. Great wine selection and generous pours. If we return, itwould just be for the wine. Decided to try one dish and was going to let that tell me if I should order more food... Well, itdidn't. I ordered the tomato mozzarella salad and it was so small for the price ($16!). It was nothing special and I can makethe exact same thing (actually better) at home for a fraction of the cost. This made me not want to order anything else from themenu as I expected all the items would be the same way. Overall the place seemed claustrophobic, dirty and overpriced. Read more

Beautiful restaurant with a very impressive menu. The food was a little heavy for my taste and too much garlic. Also, I don’t... like when my meat is swimming in grease ;) otherwise, as you can see, it’s spot on, including the presentation itself. I’lldefinitely be coming back to try more dishes! Read more

The trout was incredible; best fish I’ve had in a long time and the Brussel sprouts were perfect with it. The two cocktails I... had were great. I’ll be back. It’s definitely on the expensive end, but it’s very high quality and worth the price tag. Read more
