I first visited Gus's Chicken in Memphis and was smitten with the chicken. I went twice in Chicago and also in Detroit. So, I... can truly say Knoxville was a hit too. All the locations satisfy my craving and once you are smitten with the chicken there isno other option to search for all their locations. First time here, our chicken was perfectly cooked, and the mild spice in the fried breading was really good! Beans, Mac, Slaw... all great as well. There?s no question our meals were yummy. Service was friendly and fast as well. Reason for 4 stars is dueto overall price. There?s a mandatory fee to sub any sides, and added charge for dipping sauces. Without any drinks, our totalfor 2 was $33 including tip. I would have appreciated the slice of white bread (included as a non-replaceable side) beingtoasted and buttered - it?s just a plain slice of very average thin white bread. I could see myself coming back at some pointbut not rushing back. Would like to see no charge for replacing a side and no charge for sauce. A bite of Memphis. Since we moved we have been looking for good places to eat. Then we found Gus's.. here in Knoxville. A little... bite of heaven here. What an experience! Amy is an amazing server and a total sweetheart who made my day better. The food here is SUPER fresh! The... chicken is made to order, have to wait for it to cool down because it is straight off the fryer - cooked to perfection, neitherover nor underdone. Also, I have never had coleslaw this green, vibrant, and crunchy! The Mac and cheese was thick, creamy, andrich bringing back memories from my childhood.
