Reviews for Calhoun's in Knoxville, TN
It pains me to say this since I was looking forward to a great meal at a restaurant with a outstanding reputation, but the ribs... were a little dry and the sauce is too sweet. Full disclosure: I'm from Texas, where our BBQ's is little bit different thanTennessee BBQ. Overall good dining experience. Read more
We tried the fried pickles as an appetizer. It was a generous helping and great for a family (or a hungry couple). The seasoning... gave them just a lightly sweet flavor which was quite unique. I tried the trio. The meat that stood out to me was surprisinglythe chicken tenders! They were extremely tender and tasted more like fried chicken than your average tender. I would definitelyrecommend any of the meats on that platter. The wait staff was very friendly, accommodating, and there was plenty of seating.A great Tennessee barbecue option in Knoxville! First time and for sure the last! Based on the reviews we went on Monday afternoon. I ordered the Smoked chicken wings and this... what we got?The wings looked glossy like a bug or something. It was tough and not appetizing at all. I ordered a beer on tap,the glass had a smell, you know that ?egg smell? you get. Nasty? The service was good but the food meh. Another thing is themusic it was so loud for a Monday afternoon. It?s irritating? Would I recommend it?? Nooooo Not worth your hard earn money!!Should have gone to Buffalo Wild Wings! Read more
Went to Calhoun's for lunch last Saturday. It's an eclectic BBQ joint that is decorated with old signs and antiques. A really... cool environment for a meal. The people and the waitress are all very friendly and attentive. She kept the sweet tea full whichis awesome when your eating BBQ. I had smoky tender pulled pork that was phenomenal. I usually like a sweet sauce and Calhoun'stable sauce is not. That being said it complements thier pork very well. It's diffrent than what I'm used to but I enjoyed it alot. I also got gooey decadent mac & cheese. It's really good and heavy on the cheese. My girl got BBQ chicken and a baked sweetpotato. She enjoyed her meal as well. The bread when you sit down is warm and buttery. I love the old school corn muffins.Really a stellar lunch. I even got a six pack of micro brewed beer at checkout. Fantastic food, nice people and great service. Ihighly recommend this Calhoun's location. Read more
This place was a great choice to try out the state's BBQ. Got the brisket plate with the corn pudding and coleslaw. The brisket... was moist, and the coleslaw was refreshing with just enough mayo. Corn pudding was fluffy which is pretty different than regularcreamed corn, but interesting nonetheless. Complementary bread, cornbread, and biscuits. Service was nice too. Overall, it was agreat experience. Read more
Great BBQ restaurant! The bacon-wrapped burnt ends were tender and tasty. The ribs, brisket, and pulled pork were flavorful on... their own, as well as with their original BBQ sauce. Try the NY style cheesecake. Really good and creamy. Read more
What a phenomenal atmosphere and experience. It was busy but not crowded. The staff took time to make lunch here memorable. The... Ale steak was cooked perfectly. Try the TN corn puddin. The consistency is strange but the taste is great. This place holds aspecial place for me. It's the closest thing I have to the memories of the Madison location. Long live great food, long liveCalhoun's. Read more
Visited here on a trip from Cincinnati to Atlanta, and it could be my new favorite place. Katie, our server, was outstanding?... just friendly Southern Hospitality with excellent recommendations. The price is so inexpensive, they easily fed the four of us(all big appetites) for less than $100. We ordered a lot, but here were our favorites: The Bacon Wrapped Burnt Ends TheBiscuits The Brisket The Spinach Side Dip House Salad with Cheddar Cheese Dressing (who knew?) I just wish we weren?t so fullso we could have tried their desserts. Ah well, next time for sure. Read more
