Reviews for The Black Birch in Kittery, ME
Read all the great reviews and thought we would try it here- unfortunately this place missed the mark for us. The cocktails are... a bit pretentious- a dozen ingredients and a combination that was not good. I love a good twist on things (I'm from Seattle!)but this was a miss. The food was good but way expensive for what it is and where you are. We had the roasted pork belly- itwas good! But $16 for what it was... you could go down the street to the noodle bar and get an appetizer just as tasty and 3xthe size (which we did). Maybe it was just the menu they had that day but our experience with two drinks and one appetizer(which cost about $50 after tip) was bad enough we decided to decline entrees. Read more
Fresh, fun and fabulous. They execute excellence. The music pairs perfectly with the atmosphere. Get the daily deviled eggs and... pickles. Try a new beverage and be prepared for your meal to knock your socks off. Read more
A pretty great draft beer list and even better foooood! Travel buddy & I shared the duck confit poutine, a grilled cheese w... split pea soup, and chocolate cardamom "cake" (which was actually more like a slice of fluffy ganache ???? - killer!) - all100% delightful. Read more
Black Birch is a gem in Kittery. I had a lovely dinner with friends there this week. Sat out back in the fresh air.
The Black Birch is one of my all time favorites. We were lucky enough to get right in with a party of 3 at 630pm on a beautiful... Saturday which is usually unheard of for most of the restaurants in downtown Kittery. Gavin who runs FOH is also an owner isalways pleasant and friendly chatting with guest while seating or waiting to be seated. There's always a great selection ofbeers on tap and a range of appetizers, small plates, large plates, entrees and desserts prepared with fresh, local ingredients. The Black Birch is best with a group that enjoys sharing so you can try a little bit of everything across the whole menu. Thehouse pickles and devil's eggs are a must! Read more
Beyond delighted by our experience here! We came in on a Friday night, grabbed a couple seats at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed... the delightful crew, atmosphere, for and beverages of this quaint restaurant. My husband and I have been saying for a whilethat living all over the country has spoiled our taste buds because we really never felt like we had eaten a stupendous mealsince we've moved back here. The black Birch change that! You truly could not go wrong with anything on the menu. I'mdairy-free and they went above and beyond to make sure everything I ate was friendly to me (including at one point a run acrossthe street to talk to the pastry chef who was at another restaurant). There was quickly a wait for a table so come early! Butyou can enjoy a cocktail while you wait even if there isn't any room at the bar. So don't let that put you off. The experienceis well worth any wait. Read more
Absolutely amazing food. One of the best fish and chips we've had in all our years in America. We tend to order it whenever it... is on the menu because we enjoyed it often living in New Zealand. The batter is crispy and thin and the cod is soft. The musselswere very good as well,, nice size and plump and cooked to perfection (mussels are also another food we are snobs about comingfrom New Zealand). We also had the strip steak which had these amazing radishes. The portions were just right and the price isvery reasonable and the wait staff is very attentive and helpful with the beer recommendations. We will come back here the nexttime we come up to Maine!
