Very rude people. I have been to a lot of gates locations in this city. This one has to be the nastiest one so far. Of course... I'm not the right color here for sure. They play favors to other blacks here. The food was dry and not good at all. Fly trapsup everywhere and full. Wallpaper peeling off the wall. Was an amazing first time experience. The service by 2 ladies was amazing as well, very kind and helpful. I believe one worker... was new, so ordering some of the stuff was a little difficult, and the charge was done incorrectly. But once everything gotsquared away we really enjoyed our meal. We got the mixed plate and it is totally worth it, definitely sharing size! Not picturebut the double deuce is also a really good deal. So I finally had an opportunity to try Gates. The barbecue is really good with and without sauce. I had the Nooner special. It's... a lot of food for such a small price.. The drinks are amazing. The staff is funny just like you would expect of SouthernHospitality. Read more

Delicious food! We were not aware it was cafeteria style serving and they are yelling as soon as you come in. Pay attention. Not... the friendliest to newbies, but eh, we quickly feel into place. We personally thought the sauce was heavy and could not tastethe flavor of the meat, disappointing. It was better once we took some sauce off. We stopped by this iconic BBQ spot in Kansas City after a Chiefs game and being my first time in KC, I really enjoyed the Q. BI... got the Burnt Ends sandwich, baked beans, and potato salad. Talk about a sleeping pill, the sandwich had that smoke flavor allthe way through and the beans had so much flavor as well. Potato salad was smooth and creamy. I asked for extra sauce, the hotversion, more pickles and it was delicious. They are priced quite fairly for what you get and yes, the service can be a littlerough around the edges, but hey, they are busy and not a lot time to exchange pleasantries. The kid at the register was fastand got it right and for me, as long as my order is correct and the food is awesome, that is all that matters. Read more
Famous barbecue for a reason! The burnt end sandwich was lightly shredded to make it easy to eat and served on a soft tasty... bun. The brisket was thinly sliced, not greasy and served on white bread. Pickles and a classic vinegar KC sauce accompanyeach sandwich. Fries were also delicious and cooked hot and fresh to order. You see all those positive reviews about some true KC bbq, better believe they are all true. I saw some folks say that they were... greeted rudely, but honestly, I had a small wait with 4 folks in front of me, and it was nothing rude about it.
