Reviews for Kanaka Kava in Kailua-Kona, HI
Cool little place with with friendly staff to eat and hang out. The menu is small but big on traditional Hawaiian eats.... Definitely try the "awa" while you're there. It's in the middle of a busy easy area so be ready for lots of commotion. Read more

Had my first glass of kava with POG. Which I found was a nice way to dip your toes into the experience. Then went with a half... fresh, half dried/powdered version. I loved how instantaneously relaxed I felt. I?ll definitely seek this out again. The pokehere was some of the best we had on the island. Chilled out small location with super friendly staff. Would recommend for sureif kava interests you. Read more
Poke here was awesome. Lots of tasty and fresh flavors, pretty big portions, and the vibes were great. Must have in Kona.
First & foremost THANK YOU for serving *REAL* food. Also- Thank you for the insightful introduction to your offerings, and for... the fun experience. If you?re a foodie, and have a true appreciation for the local culture, do yourself a favor and ditch yourresort for the afternoon. You won?t regret it! Read more
As a Google Local Guide, I have done lots of research on places to see and dine before our trip. I bombed on this place... ??????????? that people rated so highly on. Yikes! As a foodie, I tried to be adventurous as much as possible but oh myLord? Trying to taste the very first local organic Hawaiian drinks and food. Everything was served out of reusable coconutshells and plates. Have anyone ever tried KAVA root drink before? Our first tried, we thought we were drinking rain water mixedwith mud????????. My plate of food supposed to include somekind of roots similar to taro. It didn?t tasted anything like taro. Ithought I was eating hot clay mixed with salt and water. The lau lau was ok. Read more
From the moment we got there, we felt like ohana. Everyone works ng there, all the locals, and even other tourists are just so... kind and welcoming. The kava itself is great, and the food is the best we had all trip. There's also a cultural significance ofthe kava, and the staff know it. In every way, it was the one experience in Kailua Kona I'd say to not miss! Read more
This is the worst dining experience I?ve had. The person taking orders was unhappy that we were there. She was extremely... unhelpful and rude. The pork itself was decent, but everything else tasted of herring oil or had no taste at all. The placehad weird vibes and made people in the group uncomfortable. Most of the food ended up uneaten and we went and got food somewhereelse afterwards. I?m pretty most of the food comes from Costco. Would actively recommend not eating here. Read more
