Reviews for Pagliai's Pizza in Johnston, IA
Not the most accommodating place. When we were being seated they took us to a table with chairs, given that there were several... booths open we asked if we could get one of those. The host was very unsure if that would be possible, after offering to waitfor a booth to be cleaned they were able to seat us in a booth. When we went to order food my sister wanted to order 12" panpizza but was told the smallest you can do is 14", no problem. My other sister asked if they could put a little pesto sauce onwith the regular red sauce and it was like we were asking them to defuse a bomb. When they finally brought out our food herpizza it was a double crust instead of a pan. When we asked about it the waiter just said oh it must have been put inwrong...and that was it. He was friendly but all of the staff that we interacted with was kind of clueless. The pizza itself wasalright but for 4 people at $100, I would have been better off buying 3-4 frozen pizzas and skipping the long wait and mediocreservice. I don't think we will go back. Read more
The service was amazing the moment you walk in the door! Our server, Kim, was spectacular! She was quick about getting drinks... and food and she made sure we had a good experience. Definitely will be going back! Read more
I drove from Arizona just to eat here, by far the best pizza. The homemade sausage is amazing, cheese is perfect. Sauce is just... right. Can?t go wrong with this pizza. Deep is my favorite but thin is just as good. Read more
On the hunt for the best pizza in Des Moines and this is in the top. I grew up going to the Pagliai?s in Grinnell and it?s... still at the top. My favorite part about dinning in here is the window to watch the pizza being made. The kids just love it.When we were there the staff was so nice, waving at the kids while they are watching. They loved it. Highlyrecommend. Favorite pizza is sauerkraut, green olives, and their in house made sausage. So good! Read more
Delivery was on time and she seemed happy to be at work (which is a nice change from some Delivery drivers). Order was correct... (and I ordered a half and half). Pizza was hot. Tasted pretty good too compared to a lot of other places I've had around here. Igot a pan crust. Just right on the amount of dough. Topings could have been spread out a little more evenly and there was a bitof a different taste to the pizza. Could be normal for this place as I haven't eaten here in many many years. Overall satisfiedand will be ordering here again. Read more
Pagliai's has the best thin crust pizza and red sauce! Our favorite is their pesto pepperoni pizza. The feta cheese and pesto is... amazing combination. The pizza was not shown on menu but our server reassured us it was still in the system to order!! Weforgot it had black olives on it which we wouldn't have opted out for but we definitely won't forget to mention next time. Don'tforget there homemade ranch it is also amazing! Read more
We were excited to see that Pag's is in Des Moines on our road trip. We loved the one at Carbondale, and this one doesn't... disappoint. We got a great house spacial pan crust pizza and an order of ravioli, with some side salads. The service was great, the food was even better than we remembered, and and the price was right. We got in at a good time, as the place filled upquickly for dinner time on a Friday night. Read more
Pagliai's is probably my favorite pizza place in Johnston/Urbandale. Their thin crust is what I've always considered "normal"... pizza. It's not crazy thin, but it's not like eating a loaf of bread, either. Their sauce and toppings are great, as well. Infact, if I were rating Pagliai's on their pizza quality alone, I'd give them an easy five star rating. My only issue withPagliai's is their delivery. Something's always weird. A side item gets forgotten, or the delivery is substantially late, orthe pizza arrives cold. In my most recent experience, I ordered online. Their "tracking" website is a complete fiction, linkedin no way to your actual delivery. It's simply a map, showing your house, and their store, and the estimated delivery time. When that time arrives, the site declares your pizza delivered, regardless of the actual situation. So, I ordered a pizza, wasgiven a delivery time, and 15 minutes after the delivery time (and after the website told me that the pizza had arrived), Icalled the store. They told me that the order would be there soon. About ten minutes later, my pizza did, in fact arrive, andit was well made and tasty. Unfortunately, something heavy had clearly been sitting on top of my pizza, and the result ispictured. Ultimately, it wasn't a big deal, by Domino's, Felix & Oscars, and Taste of Italy all manage to get undamaged pizzasto my house quicker and more reliably. I love Pagliai's pizza, and I'm glad they're around. I just wish they'd fine tune thedelivery process. Read more
