Waffle House delivers its greasy fare in blessedly consistent rituals. From the calling out of the orders to the sound of the... spatula on the grill, WH has been a kind of mecca for me in my adult years. After bartending 12 hour shifts on concrete floorsin Asheville's pre-cool days, WH and Denny's were the 2 choices for after-midnight sustenance. WH still beckons to me from theroad with their buttery yellow, glowing signage: WE ARE OPEN. The coffee is always fresh. The eggs are real, and their grilledchicken can be cut with a fork. Fine dining it is not. . .but you can count on consistency from store to store. For a night owllike me, Waffle House is a blessing, and this location does their reputation proud. Read more
