While looking for another place we stumbled upon The Dandy Lion and are quite glad that we did. It?s a quaint, cute, and very... welcoming atmosphere that we couldn?t resist. From the initial conversation with the host to our server and food the overallexperience was fantastic! We semi expected a bit more of a ?greasy spoon? type of meal but it was far better. Both of ourplates were spotless upon completion of our meal followed by the feeling of being pleasantly full. If you are reading this,definitely choose The Dandy Lion. We will be back. Read more
This food was amazing! I was not expecting Iowa City to have such good food. I got the breakfast sandwich and my boyfriend got... The Lodger. Both were so good, especially The Lodger with how flavorful it was. We got a pumpkin torte dessert which was superrich and delicious. Updated Review: Decided to give this place another shot. I didn?t think it could get worse but it did. It took a very long time... to get our food even though there was only 3 other tables. A lot of the time staff would just gather and hangout around the bar.Our server was nice enough but he had no idea what he was doing. Decided to order cocktails while we wait for food. I orderedthe chai cocktail iced, received it hot. Not a huge deal?tasted ok. My partner ordered the necromancer cocktail and there wasice in it ??????????? (should?ve been strained out since it was served in a coupe). Major amateur vibes. Don?t mix cocktails ifyou don?t know how to correctly, please. They had to take our food order again because they ?lost? the ticket. Once we got thefood, we couldn?t have been any more disappointed. I ordered the eggs Benedict and my hollandaise sauce was straight up COOKED.It wasn?t sauce anymore. I didn?t eat any of my meal. My partner's steak looked GREY and had an ODD taste, like it was old meat.He also found multiple hairs in his hash browns ??????????? We gave this place another shot and we will NEVER come back. Service was good. Didn't finish our meals. Hash was lacking in flavor, and turned to most texture quickly. Eggs I asked for... scrambled, got more of an omelette, half covered by my biscuits and gravy. Little flavor to the eggs themselves. The gravy wasnot my preference, more grease and sweet. Mixing in hot sauce could not overpower the mouth feel of the texture. Read more
This place has incredible food and an attentive staff. I recommend both the Eggs Benedict with ham, and the steak & eggs. The... only problem is it's too close to where I work, I'll be here multiple times a week! Read more
I had the pleasure of eating here with my family on our way out of town and I was quite impressed. It was a Sunday morning and... they were understandably busy but quite accommodating as we were a group of eight. Since it was a nice day, we were able to eatat one of the picnic tables outside, which probably helped. That said, the food was delicious and perfectly cooked. The sausagewas delicious and the hash browns were crispy and delicious. I definitely recommend the homemade sourdough bread for the toastoption and the house made strawberry jam was delicious too. Overall, such a lovely place worth seeking out located in a verycool area of Iowa City. Read more
If I hadn?t inhaled my food the second it was placed in front of me I would have taken more pictures! We just moved back to IC... and our friend suggested we go here for brunch. We went on a Sunday at 11am and ended up waiting an hour, which was the beexpected for the time we went. The wait was absolutely worth it though. Shared a gigantic orange cinnamon roll with our tablethat was fantastic and I ordered the biscuits and gravy with both sausage and tomato gravy and it was hands down the bestbiscuits and gravy I have had.
