THIS PLACE MADE ME LOVE RAMEN AGAIN!! I tried their Ramen with House Borth + Pork Belly and the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. The food... was delicious! Authentic ramen flavors, and everything tasted clean and fresh. The broth is sooo savory. I had a horribleexperience trying Ramen in Chicago and this place definitely made me fall in love with ramen again. 10/10 for food. Not surewhy they cut the bok choy into small pieces but I would have preferred if they served leaves uncut so that it doesn't feel likea kid's meal or ruin the aesthetics. Table felt weirdy sticky too so not sure if it's because of the cleaning agent orsomething else.... You order and pay with your phone too so make sure it's juiced and has internet because it doesn't seem likethey have public wifi. Read more
I adore this restaurant. The food is always consistently good. I love the yellowfin tuna poke bowl with avocado but the ramen is... incredible too. The whole vibe is great. They have a great selection of carefully curated beers including sours which are myfavorite. The owner is so super nice and attentive. It's in a cute little shop in a nice neighborhood. I love it! They havegreat outdoor seating. Plus you order through toast tab which is my preference for restaurant ordering these days. No hasslewith a paper check and waiting for the wait staff to bring a check. Ramen Belly is doing it all right and Iowa City is lucky tohave this gem! First impressions - when you walk in you?re told by the staff to order from the QR code on the table or walk to the counter to... order from a tablet. The restaurant itself is small so not sure why the two employees just standing and talking at the countercan?t take orders? And if I?m doing the ordering myself, why would anyone tip? The restaurant itself looks clean, modern, andwell kept. Food wise, delicious appetizer of pot stickers. Followed by tonkotsu ramen with pork belly. Broth was tasty, noodleswere great, pork belly was flavorful and tender. Food wise - best ramen in Iowa city. Food came out fast as well, always aplus. Now, back to the service itself. We received our food but after that, zero interaction from the staff to us. No follow upif the food was good, if we needed anything additional, if the order was correct, nothing. We had to flag down a staff memberwalking around for a bit of chili oil. We finished our meal and when checking out from the QR code app it asks what percent tipwould you like to give. Again I am perplexed at this point because you are told to order yourself when you walk in. What am Itipping for? I?ve lived in the US, Asia, and Europe and this was by far the weirdest ?service? situation in a restaurant I?veseen. In other restaurants with QR codes on the tables, I?ve been told by the server that I can order with the QR code or theserver can take the order. I always have the server take the order because I like to give generous tips to those working servicejobs like I have done. In this restaurant - I was pointed to QR codes and a tablet on the counter and told to order myself - soagain not sure why anyone would tip? The restaurant itself looks like a sit down restaurant so you think as soon as you walk inyou will get table service, not order yourself at the counter like to go type restaurants. Literally everything we tried here was delicious. The short rib appetizer had just the right amount of chew and exploded in... flavor, the pork belly was incredible, the brisket fell apart on the chopsticks, and even my not-very-adventurous parents lovedtheir chicken teriyaki rice bowls (and everything we ended up sharing). Arguments were had about whether the broth or brothlessramen were better. We thought upgrading the ramen with an extra egg was worth it and I ended up ordering a side of their housepickles since I loved the ones that came with the short ribs so much. Read more
This place is making outstanding ramen. The pork belly was so flavorful and so tender. We also got the short ribs appetizer... which were super flavorful. I thought the QR system was super smooth - I liked being able to just place an order for a secondbeer and they quickly brought things out. The atmosphere is also awesome for wanting to sit outside to enjoy fall vibes. Read more
First time here. It was delicious! We were seated right away and ordering off of the QR code with our phone was very easy! Our... waitress was very kind and attentive.
