Deserves less than a whole star. I literally waited 30 mins or more for 2 small shribbled up pieces of catfish, 2 cheap pieces... of bread, some overcooked fries & a can pop for almost $8. Shrimp Hut can be off and on. One time the shrimp was good, hot and crispy. The next time it was cold, doughy and nasty. BUT... this time they were on POINT. I got the construction special which includes 2 pieces of catfish, 3 shrimps, fries and a cansoda. My only complaints was the small pieces of fish! It was one piece of fish broken or cut in half, served as two. Theservice was okay, but you couldn't call your order in, you had to walk in. The restaurant is carry out only, which is fine. Theyhave chairs for you to sit in and wait on your food but the lobby was cold so most people go back to their vehicles to wait. Read more
Normally I have okay service but on today I was totally disrespected. My order was a whole catfish dinner, with a order of... mushrooms on the side. I asked the young lady twice if they had whole catfish and she said yes. The reason I asked because oncebefore they said yes but didn't have whole catfish. I waited 20 mins or more for my order, this man came in to pick up an orderand it was whole catfish meal, the young lady says we don't have any whole catfish today, well I waited for 10 more minutes theni asked the young lady how long would it be before my order would ready. She looked around like she was looking for my order andI said I had a whole catfish dinner, then she said we don't have whole catfish today. I asked her how long was I was to setthere and not know that, she said didn't know we didn't have whole catfish. I told her that wasn't good customer service andthat it was very disrespectful to allow me to set there and not say anything to me. She got upset and told the cook that i wasfussing at her and that she didn't have to put up with it so she said she was going to leave. The man said with an attitude thathe was very busy and didn't have time to straighten this out and I could get a refund or reorder. I said reorder, but they hadmessed up another lady's order and he then said just give them their money back , but in the same sentence he said we had towrite our phone number and name and come back tomorrow to get my refund. All they needed to do put it on my card but he didn't. So now i have to go back up there tomorrow. Shrimp Hut??What happened?! I?m an old school brother from the east side of town that was raised on vintage Shrimp hut and then... graduated to exclusively patronizing Mary?s Seafood. Since moving out of state for over 25 years now, I was hoping that theShrimp Hut would evoke some nostalgia from back in the day. Boy oh boy, how things have changed for the worst! First of all,the fish is unpalatable and worst of all it seems to be fried in mostly flour - no or very little, corn meal! Last but notleast, the fried shrimp is simply distasteful - disgustingly greasy and salty! In fact, I will go on record and say that theowner of this establishment should be reprimanded for selling this product to the general public. It is clear, that whom ever isnow the owner of Shrimp Hut has no idea of how their fried fish and shrimp use to taste - and known for that signature qualityand taste. Prior to this unfortunate experience, over the years we would religiously make a point to order shrimp and fishfrom Shrimp Hut and or Mary?s Seafood every time we came in town. I can say with absolute confidence that we will neverpurchase or consume food from Shrimp Hut ever again! I visited Shrimp Hut today ( Friday 8.26.22). It was very busy as I expected. I had to wait a while for my order. However, the... Manager (I think she was) made it worth the wait. She was so polite and kind. I will continue to be a Customer because ofher Kindness and Professionalism. Good Job!!!! Read more
I had heard through the grapevine that this place not only served frogs legs, but made frogs legs that would make you miss your... grandpa?s cooking. ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Took me back to when I was a kid snatching bullfrogs out of the lake with grandpa andfrying them up. The legs were great and the hush puppies are unique. Not mealy, but more the consistency of pond cake.LEGENDARY. The staff was amazing, friendly and personable. It?s not fast food and it shows. The wait time did not warrant acomplaint. On the contrary. If you want faster seafood go to LJS and get exactly want you?ve come to expect. 20 minutes or soand totally worth it. Shrimp Hunt is currently offering carry-out or picnic tables for dinning on site. I enjoyed everythingabout my visit up to and including the friendly banter of the clientele. Word of advice get there before 3:00 p.m. But in my opinion shrimp Hut has the best fish in the city and I've had them all.
This is an Eastside Jewel in the rough. We have only ordered the perch and whiting, but it is outstanding. And if you like... mushrooms, onion rings and fried green tomatoes, then you must try theirs. Due to continued road construction they are not asbusy. Still ordering in advance would be wise here. Be prepared to possibly wait, but it?s worth it. And their lunch and dinnerprice?s will be hard to beat..This continues to exceed our expectations each time we order here.
