One needs to review Tarka for what it is and not for what it is not trying to be. This is not a typical Indian restaurant. It is... a fast casual restaurant serving Indian food and we need to review it as such. It is fills a similar space as what Panda Expressfills in Chinese food - with friendly service, clean and smart ambience, quick and convenient food, affordable prices, andserving size for one person. If one is seeking authentic Indian food with pile high portion sizes, one needs to go elsewhere andalso be prepared to pay more there. The service is friendly here both in person and on the phone. The ambience is bright andthey pipe lively bollywood music. Here are my ratings for what I ordered: Lamb Tikka Masala - 5/5 Very enjoyable. Whileauthentic restaurants braise the protein in a curry for a long time so that the meat cooks and absorb the flavors of the sauce,restaurants with quick service pre-cook the meat (by boiling in spiced water) and the curry separately and mix the ordered sauceand protein in a hot skillet just before serving. In the latter method of cooking the meat invariably does not get enough timeto absorb the flavor of the curry. The taste of this tikka masala was spot on. Very delicious. While I am sure they used meatthat was pre-cooked separately, I could not detect that, which was a plus for this dish. Highly recommended. Jeera Rice - 5/5This comes as a side with the curry. Very well made. Naan - 5/5 Large, well made, and fluffy Lamb Korma - 3/5 The sauce was goopy and not did contain the exquisite flavors of a korma curry. The pre-cooked meat did not absorb the taste of thecurry. Chicken Biryani - 4/5 This does not compare to the kachchi or dum biryani made in an authentic restaurant. If I setaside expectations of authenticity this rice and chicken mixture is quite enjoyable to eat.
