Great ambiance. Black owned. Very spacious with multiple mingling sections & ample seating. Cozy and inviting atmosphere! Great... DJ with nice music! Most of the food was good, especially the grits & fried lobster. Wings were overcooked, & didn't tastefresh. Loved the waffles. My frozen margarita was good. Nice art work & decor! They charge $10 for parking in lot, but we gotlucky and found a close nearby park on the street. We were disappointed in our waitress, Tatyana - she never checked on usafter we got our food. We requested syrup & butter for the waffles & had to have another waitress track her down to remind her -meanwhile waffles were cold by the time she finally responded. My request for a 2nd margarita also required me tracking herdown to remind her. After finishing our meal & waiting 35 minutes, we once again had to ask another waiter to find her so wecould get our check. Mind you the restaurant wasn't super busy & it was very noticeable how other guests with other waiterswere getting checked on & better service! An automatic 18% gratuity is added to every check, which I didn't mind, however Ifelt like our waitress was slacking simply 'cos she knew she'd get an automatic 18% tip - even if she provided poor customerservice! It's kinda sad that she made no effort to earn any extra gratuity, and she gave no reasonably expected goodservice! An Entertainment fee of $4 per table (to cover cost of DJ) is added to every check. (A table of 2 will see this as a$2 fee if the check is split). Our checks were $54 and $97 (about $150 for two). Loved this place & I may give them anothertry, however, if I ever return I will certainly request a different waitress other than Tatyana. Read more

We came on a Saturday evening for dinner which stated at 5:30. They don't have reservations, so if you're going, go for 5:30 on... the dot. The food was average, I have no complaints. The only complaint I have is that they don't devein their shrimp. Ourservice was okay; a little slow esp for the place not being packed. Read more

Our first brunch spot to try on our Houston vacation was Phil and Derek's. From the very beginning the "manager" rubbed me the... wrong way (black guy with shaved sides and dreads on top). We get there and it's packed. The person at the front told him weneeded a table, and because the main side was packed, we were told we might have to sit in the additional side room they have ifwe didn't want to eat at the bar. So the manager comes with the menus and says "this them?" and proceeds to walk out the door.We didn't know who he was talking about until the lady said to follow him. Never once did HE say we could follow him to theother side. We get to the other side and he seats us right at the entrance. Keep in mind that is was a VERY chilly Saturday.Anyway, my appetizer comes out which was gumbo. The gumbo wasn't even room temperature and the rice was hard. Who wants roomtemperature food??? Shortly after, my shrimp and grits come out. There was no steam coming from this food. The shrimp was coldand the grits were stiff. They added shredded cheese to it which was still intact which showed that this food was nowhere nearhot. Our waitress (who was very nice by the way) went to get the "manager." He comes over with a slight attitude and just standsat our table looking up at the ceiling. Clearly he wasn't going to address our issues so I had to tell him what was going on. Sohe and the waitress took our plates to heat them up. They bring the food back out and the plates are warm but the food is stillcold. At this point, I don't want to keep heating up my grits and shrimp. They should've made us new plates which they did onthe THIRD try. I would never come back here ever again. The lack of professionalism and customer centricity really blew my mind. Read more
Came in for brunch on a Saturday, party of 4, without a reservation and was seated within 5 minutes, outdoors. We called ahead... and were told the wait would be an hour which we were fine with. The hostess and manager(I believe) was very accommodating. Theservice alone gets a 5/5. The inside is small but they do have outdoor seating with heaters. I'm glad we were seated outdoorsbecause inside they were playing music so loud we wouldn't have been able to hold a conversation. People were dancing on theinside which was fun. 4/5 The food and mimosa were bomb. I had the chicken and waffles. They give you a good amount of wholechicken wings, hot and very well seasoned. 5/5 Other things to note. Parking lot is cramped. They have valet but there's alsostreet parking around. They had a list of "rules" on the menu about expectation which I thought was... different lol. Read more
