Reviews for Peking Impression in Houston, TX
I was craving for some crispy peking duck and this place popped up in my search so we decided to try this place. Best decision... ever since it did not disappoint at all! The peking duck is crispy and delicious! Exactly what I have been wanting and cravingfor! The la zi ji aka spicy crispy chicken, stir fried string bean, and mapo tofu were all amazing as well! We went early Fridayevening, there was no wait and the food came out quickly! I highly recommend this place, especially if you\'re looking for somegood crispy peking duck!! The service was wonderful as well, very attentive and nice servers! Read more
Came in for dinner and was going to try the Peking but decided to try all the other dishes instead. Price here are pretty high... but the portions justify it.\n\n3/5\nService was pretty awful when we came in. They sat us down and no one came to us for awhile. When the person came they told us to change table so we sat there for some time so they could transfer us. Then after wewere moved took a while for anyone to be flagged down and when they did they were rushing while I was ordering. It wasn?t evenbusy it was half tables full at most. After we ordered and the food came out there were no water or utensils. It started so badI know it?s Chinatown but come on. But as the meal progressed another sweet employee came and checked on us. She helped us withpacking the foods as well. I think it was just that one employee that gave us a bad taste.\n\nDuck soup 5/5\nThey were notkidding when they said that this is really tasty! So flavorful and did not expect it to be so delicious. Typical places makesoups very bland. There were some noodles in here which I enjoyed. It came piping hot, made a good side soup. Price was cheapfor a huge bowl also. Would come back just for this!\n\nPickled hot fish 4/5\nVery huge portion. I?ve had spicier and moreflavorful elsewhere but this wasn?t too bad. It was mild but still tasty. Good amount of fish. Lightly tangy andsavory.\n\nBeef and enoki 4/5\nAlso mild and not at all spicy but very tasty light dish. Lots of beef and good ratio ofmushrooms. Beef was thin and cooked well.\n\nSalted egg shrimp 4/5\nSeasoned well. Husband said was good amount of saltiness. The crunch was good and huge shrimps. I quite enjoyed the dish. Read more
I was hesitating to try this place when I saw a low 2.9 rating on google. But after reading all the reviews I decided to give it... a try. I?m happy I did. I probably will give it a 4 but to balance out some of the very obvious hostile comments, I?m glad torate it a 5.\nWe waited about 45-50 minutes cause the duck was freshly made, not reheated or fried. It was served thetraditional way, skin was crispy and a generous portion which I really enjoyed. The only downside was the meat portion was alittle small. We also ordered beef with enoki mushrooms and pork kidney. Both are very good. Hopefully they can keep up with thequality. The two waitresses were both very friendly and nice, we will be back. I\'m really surprised by the bad reviews. It made me hesitant to try it when seeing the bad reviews on Google but I saw someone... posted about it on Instagram story and it looked good! The person thought it was good so I finally decided to try it! The skinwas of the duck was crispy. They only have whole ducks for for sale so you can\'t get half but you can always take it home andput it in the toaster oven and it will still be good! That\'s what I did. It comes with duck soup and thin pancakes which Ipersonally prefer over the baos. The string beans vegetable dish we ordered was pretty good too! I would definitely come back totry their shrimp dish that I saw other customers ordered and a friend recommended the salted egg tofu. The customer service wasgood - there was one waitress on a Monday and she even packed out food to go for us. I would say that they do try to upsell you(understandably so since it is a business and they want more sales especially if not enough customers to pay rent and keep theirbusiness afloat) but I mean all you have to say is no. Not necessary to give a restaurant one star because of that. I am big onquality and taste of the food! Read more
We went on a Wednesday evening kind of late (past the dinner rush) and it wasn\'t crowded but there were more people than I... expected. Even though there were bigger open tables, our party (4 adults + a baby) were seated in a booth with no room to sticka chair at the end so my husband and I had our 1yo crammed between us in a booster seat. Other than this one thing, the serverwas fine, didn\'t pressure us to order more as other reviews have been saying.\nWe ordered the duck, eggplant and green beans, and Japanese tofu. The duck was definitely not a full duck. I think a regular chicken has more meat than we were served. Thepresentation was pretty nice so maybe people don\'t notice. It\'s probably something like 2 ducks every 3 orders or something. Also the duck was dry and the skin a little chewy. You can tell it\'s not fresh. The Japanese tofu was quite salty but the squidcooked perfectly-- very soft. The eggplant was decent too.\nAll in all, I would consider maybe returning for the other dishesbut for a place whose name is Peking Impression, I really expected their duck not to be so much of a rip off. We heard about them so we decided to try. Their tables were filled so they asked us to come back in 10 minutes. We left and came... back and they had a table available for us. We ordered the whole duck and salted egg yolk tofu. The duck (crispy and flavorful)and duck soup (had clear noodles in there) were good. The tofu was surprisingly good. Some were hollow and missing the tofu. Wewill definitely come back to try their other dishes. Read more
Food:\nFoods are great. Many authentic northern Chinese dishes available there. The Peking Duck is their chef?s special and one... of the best in Houston.\n\nService:\nService is the reason why I give 4 stars instead of 5. Overall OK but our waitress pushedus really hard to order more. Also she judged on our leftovers. Read more
Was hungry for Peking Duck and found this place on Google map. The rating seems pretty good so we decided to give it a try. The... restaurant closes at 10pm. We arrived around 9pm. The informed us that the kitchen was closed for cleaning but if we wanted thePeking Duck it was fine.\nThe whole Peking Duck came with the soup for $45. It came with 18 very thin pancake, duck sauce, cucumber and green onion. The duck sauce was savory with the right amount of sweetness. The duck had a good flavor, but the skincould be a little more crispy. The soup was good. Overall the duck was good and the price still reasonable. Will go back again, but maybe a little earlier. Highly recommend this place. Read more
