We had lunch at the Red Oak filling station after spending the morning at the Garvan Woodland Gardens and the whole family love... it! There is ample parking out front and tons of seating inside. We tried the fried catfish, the country fried chicken, andthe BBQ sampler and we enjoyed everything! The fried catfish was the star. It was so good and so perfectly cooked that we didn'teven need the tartar sauce! We tried the pecan pie for dessert, which wasn't the best, but the soft serve made up forit. Overall, it was a nice causal place to eat with hearty comfort food and great southern dishes. Read more

Delicious smoked meat and fried catfish! We were headed to Garvan gardens when this place caught our eye. We passed by around... 12:30 PM yesterday and the parking lot was packed. Luckily we were headed to the gardens first so we ended up at the restaurantaround 4 PM We had almost the whole place to ourselves but the service was still very prompt! We started off with the briskettacos as an appetizer. We rally enjoyed that there was lettuce on them and not just meat and onions. They were three good sizetacos. For our main we ordered :: smoked meat sampler platter and The three piece catfish meal. The ribs are fabulous and thebrisket was also amazing. They do have three barbecue sauces at the table but we only needed a little bit of them as the meatflavor was tender and delicious and smoky. The fried catfish was served piping hot and at the peak of crispiness with verylittle breading. YAY!!! Many of the sides were just good or slightly above average but the brisket mac & cheese is not to bemissed. The fried okra was good as well? The green beans and the coleslaw were only average. Great serving sizes! We orderedthree plates of food and we had almost a whole plate to take home after we eat as much as we could. The staff was superfriendly and very helpful and we never wanted for anything. Read more

Tasty barbecue and friendly service. I had a stuffed potato and the chopped beef was excellent. Coleslaw and baked beans were... very good as well, more sweet than spicy, just the way I like it. Hubby had brisket and chicken tenders; he enjoyed it all.Kiddos had chicken tenders and brisket sandwich - they liked both but complained about how greasy their food was. Overall goodand exactly what we were expecting. We're likely to return if we're craving some good barbecue. Read more
