Reviews for McCully Buffet in Honolulu, HI

I have seen this place marketed by McCully Buffet on Instagram as the only ?Premium, Fine-Dining? Seafood and Yakiniku Buffet... and wanted to check the place out. We visited the restaurant on a Thursday evening, we called 30 minutes prior to arriving andthey got us right in! The spicy beef soup, was a delayed spice - very delicious. Japchae, on point. As for everything else, itwas mid. Which made me disappointed after all their advertising on social media. The selection of meats were below anywhereelse (Gen, Gyu-Kaku) and they could not be considered premium. The shrimp color looked scary to even consume. I love salmonkama, however didn?t even want to try due to how crusty/old the cooked salmon looked. The sushi is questionable because of thetemperature (not cold) due to the nigiri and sashimi sitting out, which makes me worry. Shrimp tempura very greasy/ oily. Also,no crab legs or scallops. Water had horrible taste, strong perfume (maybe leftover soap) We were able to serve ourselves onthe buffet line. Service was really good. She changed our grill out three times and also provided a refill on the soda. No icecream. Dessert was jello, VERY hard. I had to spit mine out into a napkin it was that bad. When the bill came, we noticed theauto gratuity. I really strongly dislike when a business does this for a party of 2. Then to look further, they added thegratuity and subtotal and then taxed that! Wow! We go up to pay and they have a Surcharge Fee for credit card transactions thatis based on your total bill due to them not wanting to pay the processing fee. Bad business model to put all of that on yourcustomers, left a bad taste in our mouth after a below average meal. Read more

This place is overpriced for what it is. The korean bbq meats felt old and dry. And the buffet had very little selections.... Beware of this place, its not worth it. . The staff was friendly though and attentive. Read more

There was such a wide variety of things to choose from. Besides nicely seasoned meats, I also liked the tempura and other side... dishes that were available. There is also ice cream which is a nice way to finish any meal. The staff was also friendly andattentive to our needs. Read more

For some reason, my review is no longer here, so I guess I have to re-write it. First of all, if my pictures make you think that... the food here is good, I'm sorry. I'm trying to give them the best chance. The reality is that the food here is below averageat best. The food that should be hot or warm is cold instead, and food that should be kept cooler (like the sushi) is warm. Thesalmon tasted like it had been sitting out for a while, and considering they were pretty fast with replenishing the supply atthe buffet, that tells me that wherever they're keeping it in the prep area is not suitable. Same goes for the raw meat. Inormally like my beef on the rare side, but I not only had to cook everything well done, I had to purposely overcook them alittle bit just to get rid of that stale meat taste. Full disclosure, I did come here a little later in the day, but thatdoesn't excuse the staleness of the food they had out in the buffet. And mind you, I was there over an hour before last call. And people were still continuing to arrive, and they were still continuing to put food out at the buffet. So the total lack offreshness in their food is absolutely inexcusable. The scallops were good though, that's one bright spot. However, that doesn'tredeem this place by far. If you're in Hawaii and you feel like you really want yakiniku or kbbq style food, you're better offgoing to GEN or Gyu-Kaku. These places are franchises, so while their food may not be excellent, they are at least consistentlygood. Do yourself and your party a favor: skip this restaurant. Read more

Twas ok. ??????????????? Need to stand in line a few feet apart from another patrons of course & patiently wait to be served by... one of the workers. Majority of the time, there was just one single worker, helping to serve the many, various dishes topatrons. Felt bad that there was only one worker whom was doing their best to serve various dishes for hungry patrons to choosefrom. ???? Went there this past weekend for my birthday brunch. My daughter & her fiancee had chosen this place toeat. ??????????????????? Plethora of various sushi, poke, side dishes & cuts of meats & sauces to choose from. There was alsosoft drinks & a list of different alcohols to choose from ; which we did not indulge in, especially since their sohu was almost$10/ bottle ... ???? There was 3 kinds of soups & also a Soft Serve Ice cream machine that had vanilla, chocolate or you cancombine a mix 2 flavors in. You put on disposable gloves, to make/serve yourself your flavor(s) of your choice into a smalldessert bowl. Their various types of meats to cook were so/so. ??????????????????????????. I honestly wouldn't go back thereagain to eat. Nor would I recommend others to eat there. Sorry ,folks... ??????????????????? I'm Just being honest. ??????????? Read more
