Wow! I had heard that Rodney Scott knew his way around BBQ, but tasting is believing! The 14-year old even said, "These are the... BEST ribs I've ever Eaten!, and growing up in Birmingham, he's had quite a few ribs! The ribs were flavorful, caramelized on theoutside, yet SUPER tender on the inside. The pork (plate) was covered in spices, visually, but, just the right amount of YUM!!!I tried all of the sauces, & they are a perfect compliment, but, the meat is so good, it doesn't even NEED it. I was in town for work and Rodney Scott's was just a short walk from the hotel. I ate there for lunch one day and dinner the... next. For lunch, I had the turkey sandwich and it was smokey, moist and delicious. It could use some acid in the form of eitherpickles and/or onion, but it just comes plain with white sauce. For dinner, I ordered the catfish with hush puppies, mac &cheese and greens. Yes, yes and yes! My order had two very large fillets that were crispy and tender, but a tad bit underseasoned. The hush puppies were more cakey and less corn meal than you'd expect but still good. Add some honey butter and ittakes them over the top. The mac & cheese was seriously some of the best I've ever had and the greens were somewhat sweet(different but I liked it) and tender but still with some bite. I'll definitely visit again. Suggest to try: Catfish (unlessyou are super hungry one fillet is more than enough), Hush puppies, Turkey sandwich (ask to add pickles), mac & cheese, greensand hand pie. Had the whole hog pork plate with slaw. This is the go to item - was good, not spectacular as it was a touch dry. Sauces were... real tasty and had the right balance between spice and sweet. Ultimately, the sauces brought up the taste of the pork. Atmosphere was a bit subdued because it was Monday night - Definitely worth coming back to try more meat options! Read more
I love Rodney Scott BBQ? I will go out of my way in Birmingham to eat there. Their smoked wings are some of the best I?ve ever... had. Went with my friend to try out the food since we follow a protégé of the restauranteurs on IG. The layout is super cute and... picture worthy. The seating was spacious, accessible, and able to comfortably host large gatherings. It really felt like anindoors picnic and nostalgic. On to the food. Now, to be fair, I like my sauce sweet and the three options available did NOThit the spot. They were all vinegar forward despite the descriptions. We ordered all of the sides to share. The pulled pork wastender but underseasoned. I got fries and mac and cheese and they were solid. The greens and beans had the same problem as theBBQ sauce: vinegary. The hush puppies offered little hush puppy flavor but more unsweeted Jiffy. Lastly, the handpies were okay.The dough was good, but thin and the pies were overfilled a bit with what looked more like apple jelly. Not bad, but not worththe $75, in my honest opinion. Read more
Don?t get me wrong? I love the food at Rodney Scott?s, but to be honest, the food is way overpriced. I got this rib sandwich to... go for the Super Bowl, and it cost me $16. Again, it tastes great, but this is way overpriced given the amount of food Ireceived. Read more
