This used to be the place I would recommend to anyone who said anything about BBQ. It really was quite an amazing place and... atmosphere even if you had to wait out on the porch for half an hour or longer, or if you had to drive an hour just to getthere. The staff always made you feel welcomed and was very accommodating. The buffet was awesome and affordable and you couldsmell the food smoking from a mile away. The drive is beautiful as is the scenery around the restaurant. The last few times wehave visited the quality and service has seemed to go downhill with each visit. There is no longer a buffet. The portions havegotten smaller. The food has lost its flavor. The prices have gotten much higher. I would not complain about the price if youstill got what used to be served here, but sadly that is not the case. The farmhouse doesn't even seem to have the same charm itused to ooze as soon as you walked through the door. The hash and skins were always a favorite, but the hash is so watery andflavorless now and the skins are stale and burnt. The ribs barely have any meat on them. I don't remember them serving chickenbefore and I didn't bother try it because we always came for the whole hog bbq. The staff seems to almost rush you through theorder even though they were not busy and still an hour and a half from closing. I understand that with the pandemic and itbeing a business that they have to make changes to make money, but they can't live off the reputation they worked so hard to getfor much longer. It is a shame, and it hurts to write this review. The 3 stars I did give it are for nostalgic value and inhopes that it someday will regain the charm and flavor that made them so famous in the first place. Read more

Honestly we had high hopes for a great country barbecue place, unfortunately it missed the mark with flavor, mac and cheese was... extremely overcooked. The ribs barely had any meat on the bone. The sauce was really good but that's about it. Also the diningroom was so quiet you could hear every single conversation in the room and was really awkward. When I take my family out to eatwe expect food that we can't make ourselves, I could've went to dollar general and prepared a better meal. Read more

I heard this place was supposed be have exceptional Barbeque. We drove 30 minutes to try it. I ordered the pulled pork plate... and one rib. I also called befor I went to ask if they had a red sauce based hot sweet and smokey sauce. The lady on the phonesaid yes. After we ordered our food at the counter and set down I noticed no traditional red Barbeque sauce. I asked the workerand she pointed to the one they call red sweet and hot. It was yellow and mustard based. They have three sauces. A very vinegarbased, a mustard vinegar and the one they call red which is mustard based as well. They also give you something they call porkrinds. I love pork rinds but have never seen anything like that. They were dark brown burnt hard as rock pieces of skin. Ialmost broke my tooth trying to bite it. How does anyone eat them I don't know! And people were buying bags of them. May as dogchews. Small portions of sides and the pulled pork was nothing special. The rib was not very good as well. There are manyBarbeque places in the Charleston area that are much better and doesn't require an hour round trip. I apologize for such anegative review but I hope it encourages the owners to make some changes. One more thing. The room where you eat was so quiteyou could hear a pin drop. No background music or anything. You could hear everything anyone else was saying so nobody eventalked. Very strange atmosphere. The server would occasionally enter the room and ask everyone at one if they needed anythinginstead of coming to the table and asking you. So if you wanted something you had to speak across the room for everyone to hearin the silence. Very Strange and uncomfortable. Read more

East Coast's outstanding Barbeque spot is Sweatman's Barbeque. Sweatman's wrestles with the top restaurant's in the country. ... The ribs and their sauce is unique. They deliver via a simple menu. On the menu is a simple and delicious banana pudding. Myson says their coleslaw is a southern treat as well. The restaurant has a special feel adding to the barbeque experience. Youvisit an old farmhouse fitted for a comfortable eating setting. The service is OUTSTANDING.. They move the line serving youthe best barbecue. We have a great barbeque in Delaware. Sweatman's is such a delight. When you visit Santee Cooper, SouthCarolina. You will have a wonderful place to eat. Oh, try the sweet tea. Read more
