I was excited to try this pizza joint after having seen their IG account and photos of their pies. I was concerned a little by... the (to my eye) undone edge of the crust in all the photos but I figured I'd give the chef the benefit of the doubt and eat itas normally sold. I'm in Hilo weekly and today I finally decided to stop in. Parking was easy in the Puainako lot and servicewas fast and friendly. I ordered a cheese pizza topped with green bell pepper and an Italian sub. I will review the sub anothertime. My first impression on looking at the pizza was that it was topped with too much cheese, not enough pepper and again theedges looked a little white. Turned out the pizza was not only looking undercooked but in fact was woefully underdone. I couldnot separate the slices because the entire interior portion of the pizza was raw dough. I tried a slice at the more done outeredge to see what it tasted like. This pizza has potential and that is why I didn't give it only 1 star. I'm not going to tossthe pie, I will put a slice in a hot toaster oven and let it cook another bit. As a born northeast guy I will admit I'm a littlemore picky than maybe someone born in a pizza wasteland. As a former pizza shop employee myself in my younger years mysuggestions would be to put less cheese and cook a few minutes longer. Not many places I can give a 5 star to know Hilo, but this is one of them. Simply put, good price for good pizza. Bought a full... pizza for my husband and I, ended up lasting us two days (leftovers for the next). Crispy crust and dough when fresh, cheesy,flavorful toppings. Got the special. Would recommend. Great pizza place. A generous slice is $4.50 and well worth it! The inside area is small but has tables and NYC style eating... rails. We prefer the outside tables but there is no view (you face the back of McDonald?s). They have more than pizza; alsoavailable is pasta, sandwiches and salads. This is my favorite pizza place in Hilo. Pretty good pizza, had pizza by the slice which was nice. The staff are friendly and helpful talking through the menu. Prices... are reasonable. Little dining room in the front is great. Read more
My husband and I moved to Hilo from Los Angeles recently. My husband is from Boston, Massachusetts originally and really missed... getting some good, authentic, East-Coast pizza. He was driving by and saw Scicchitano?s and was so excited to try it. We orderedthe cheese pizza and the chicken pesto pizza. They were huge-a foot and a half long! Both pizzas were delicious! These are theNew York thin-crust pizzas, not the thick-crust Chicago style. My husband was ?over the moon? to find Scicchitano?s Pizzeria.The pizza perfectly satisfied his craving for East-Coast pizza. He plans to eat here on a regular basis. My husband said thatthe pizzas have the perfect cheese blend, and the perfect combination of crispy and chewy crust. My husband was so generous inbeing willing to move to Hilo to care for my elderly mom after my dad?s passing that I?m thankful to Scicchitano?s Pizzeria forproviding a wonderful gift to my husband by bringing New York pizza to Hilo. I had high hopes for a new Pizza joint poping up in Hilo.Yet sadly Scicchitano's 18 inch "New york style" pizza pulls off a... overpriced, oily, thin, under topped and yet somehow undercooked pie. God forbid you try to add toppings to the pie for $2 a popand can see the sparse distribution. Unless we got super unlucky on our visit and 3 pies turning out like this just avoid thisplace. Great pizza! The Italian Beef is on point and does not disappoint. Giardinera is flavorful with a bit of spice. Don't forget... to save room for dessert. The cannoli is good for those craving something sweet. Can't wait to try all the Italian goodies onthe menu. Read more
It's rare for me to give a five star for a restaurant in Hilo but I think this might be the best local pizza shop for the big... island. They are a true family business, great pizza options, great menu options and classy venue. Read more
