Fantastic concept. Love the farm to table aspect. But if you?re looking to showcase your farm?s high quality beef, then you need... to not cook the patties to a char - especially as thin as they are. These were like chewing thin briquettes. Overall our mealhad high quality ingredients, but everything was over-cooked. I?d also suggest first boiling your potato slices just pastblanched, letting them cool completely and THEN frying in the beef tallow. You?ll end up with much more surface area, which willtranslate to more crunchies and more beef flavor. We had burger sauce (ketchup and mayo) as well as buttermilk ranch alongsideour potatoes. Do not sleep in this place! This is hands down one of the best burgers my wife and me have had in Montana. Perfectly cooked with... great fried potato. The fry sauce that was served with it was also amazing. Not to expensive with fast and friendly service aswell. We will absolutely be back! Read more
WOW this place is good. Honestly it?s gotten better over the last few months. May seem a little pricey but it?s great quality... and the drinks at Gold Bar are affordable. Get the big potato bowl and horseradish mayo! Excellent salad. Read more
Really was stoked to see a tiny little co-op open up that gives local farmers a chance to showcase their great beef. It is a... very basic menu, but the beef was fresh and amazing. I enjoyed the burger, the flavors were fantastic. But the real star of theshow was the beef fried potatoes. Holy moly, tiny potato chunks deep fried to perfection. They were crispy and delicious and thesmokey bbq sauce was amazing. Do yourself a favor a get a classic combo, it will leave you feeling satisfied and your bellycraving for more potatoes. Read more
First, I love the concept that the Old Salt Outpost operates on! Local ranchers co-op, local beef, quality food! All the good... stuff....portion size, service, nice atmosphere, business model, horseradish mayo, beef fried potatoes cooking method,self-serve water station! Really liked having the full bar right next to Old Salt Outpost and it probably makes it easier forthem not to have to worry about serving drinks. With that said there were a couple problems, some of them admittedly personalpreference. The beef fried potatoes were very salty, to the point my wife could not finish her portion. The smokey BBQ sauce hadno flavor, just bland. The burgers needed the cheese or they would be dry, but that's coming from a WI guy who loved "butterburgers". There is no option for "hamburger" on the menu but I'm sure they would leave the cheese off if you asked. The potatoesare a little overpriced for the portion size you get. Not a bad place. Awesome burgers!!! And the potatoes are delicious!! One suggestion we had was changing the cheese on the burger to something... other than American or having the option to and maybe changing the bread it is on. The burger meat was amazing. And they servelate so this is going to be an awesome addition to Helena! Read more
